I think weather is a factor for Southern teams in that they are out of their comfort zone when it's like it's predicted to be in Missoula this coming Saturday. I don't know about Coastal Carolina but since I follow McNeese I can tell you that I doubt that they've played in temperatures below 50 this year. And if they did it wasn't by much. You take a team like that and stick them an environment where the wind chill is below zero and I think it has an impact on them. Not that it's impossible to overcome but it's a disadvantage.

And with Missoula it's more than that. I don't think there's a stadium atmosphere like that anywhere else in FCS. There are some dome stadiums like North Dakota States where it might get about as loud but I don't think it's quite the same. You've got this Southern team in frigid conditions with this huge (by FCS standards) crowd right on top of them making it so they can't hear any signals, etc. I think it's just flat out the toughest environment a team like that is going to face.

I know that living in Portland, where Winter (as well as Fall and Spring) temperatures are pretty much constantly in the 50s and a little damp... when I go to Cheney in December, it still feels like dick-crawling-up-in-my-stomach cold. There is a giant difference between 50s and damp and 20s and windy.
Indeed, and it'll be a miracle if it even hits 15 next Saturday. Don't think there's supposed to be much wind, but if there is it'll be downright nasty.

TSU, at home, gave up 567 yards to EIU in October. Lora was not the leading receiver, but did have over 100 yards. So did two other receivers. And EIU had about 150 on the ground. Not saying it is going to happen again, but from what we have already seen, it is going to take more than those two players to stop EIU.
Well the Tigers should have that poor performance on their minds right now as stated before the front seven better bring the rush or it's going to be over very early!!!!

Yup. Barring an outbreak of Bobcat Syndrome in Missoula, where cases haven't been reported before, I suspect the Griz win by multiple TDs.

Plus they're built for winter football. I favor the Eagles but I would not be at all shocked to see them get knocked off. I WOULD be shocked to see Coastal Carolina, which is most certainly not built for winter weather conditions, go beat Montana in Missoula when the wind chill is below zero or close to it.

Ask Stephen F. Austin what it's like to have a high flying, whiz bang Southern offense and go into that blustery ice castle and try to make it work.
SHSU scored 45 in Cheney last December and it was pretty cold.
Also TSU winning vs Butler in Indiana last I heard Indiana is located in cold weather climate as well.

Should we quarantine Bozeman in a giant, inescapable glass dome?

Forecast for Saturday at EIU. Sunny, windy, high of 28. If it is anything like the last game at home, short passes will be in order. Jimmy was able to stretch the field some, but the winds pushed the ball around.

And theyre not like SFA either. But they're all whiz bang southern offenses. So was SHSU's 2004 team that won here in the quarters when it was freezing cold.

Yeah. Some of those match ups are lopsided.

So, when CCU loses will it be because
A) they played in a climate that is 100% foreign to them
B) even with a 10-2 Regular season record, they didn't deserve to be in the playoffs
C) all of the above

If Butler was not good enough to qualify they would have been home watching.

Well other than that, I doubt the game itself will be very interesting. With almost everyone back healthy on offense, and the D playing lights out, I can easily see us hanging half a hundo on them. :coffee:

You really think that these elements won't have an effect on CCU. The noise is the noise, I don't think that will shock CCU into submission but if you think that this weather won't effect them - you are not being realistic. It will take the Montana players all week to acclimate themselves to this weather and CCU will do it in one day?

So the question is: Can you accurately judge a team from a sub-tropical environment playing in the Siberia of the West?

No. Stephen F. Austin (for example) was much better than they showed in that game. 51-0 and 10 turnovers after leading FCS in scoring? Outlier.

Actually, yes. I remember when Montana played at SHSU in September. Their fans were saying how the heat was going to effect the norther boys and they would be beat down. Montana lost 41-29 and players were throwing up on the field. They were not used to the heat and humidity......
