I wouldn't say EWU waxed Vanilla. But they did have almost twice as many yards of offense, a greater TOP, hung on to the ball a lot better (only 2 TO's as compared to 6), and basically shut down Sczcur, limiting him to only 36 yards of rushing. Vanilla's supposedly far superior O-Line got man-handled in that game.

So in other words, they got waxed. Especially since most ppl thought (even EWU fans on this site ) sczcur and the gang were gonna kill EWU. Btw one of novas turnovers was an EWU player TAKING THE BALL FROM THE RB and running it in for a TD. =manhandled/waxed. To be the best you gotta beat the best. Wooo!

The only thing that makes sense on your post is "to be the best you gotta beat the best". Not my job to educate, but it doesn't sound like you know what "waxed" means. It certainly isn't appropriate when talking about a game that was in question with a couple minutes left and the team that lost had 6 turnovers regardless of the other stats pointed out by Ranger. I remember the game well and EWU deserved to win but getting "waxed" is a big overstatement.

The writers who vote in the Lambert Cup (people who have actually seen all the Eastern teams play) have Fordham #2 in the East, only behind Towson. Fordham was ahead of Towson all season until it lost one game without Nebrich playing.

If you are thinking Fordham is a PL team, and thus you rate them lightly, keep in mind Fordham has 60 scholarships, routinely dropped 50 or more points on its opponents this year, and it played its games against Bucknell and Lafayette without Nebrich.

Towson has a game on its hand Saturday.

I watched Fordham a little last weekend and I think both the Rams and EIU could surprise some people but lets not get carried away here. Doing well with a tough OOC schedule helps raise eyebrows but then going relatively untested over the next 9-10 games isn't a great primer.

The rest of the teams in the Patriot and to a lesser extent OVC still lack talent compared to a power conference schedule. Once you reach the playoffs, and especially after the NEC and MEAC riff raff are gone, the game speeds up, the hits are more ferocious, the athletes simply better. That's why these type of teams have historically shit the bed. They're level of competition over the entire season has simply not prepared them.

I remember that team as well. I was an undergrad at Murray. And, again, I know the past has clouded the thoughts of those around the nation. But I were handed the stats of the teams in the playoffs with no names and no history, I would bet on them.

Yes but those stats are mostly within a weak conference ( although given the results of last weekend games, it appears to be improving).

EIU is in the mix for sure and deserving of a lofty seed. But as 89hen pointed out, ignoring VERY recent history is silly.

JSU might take out McNeese, a team that has been destroyed a couple times this season, and they might even beat EWU because of they way they are built, but face it...this is the weakest bracket out there. McNeese has no shot against either SDSU or EWU. EWU probably wins this side of the bracket because of the home field advantage. SDSU would walk otherwise, and still has a chance.

Tenn. St. can say bye-bye. They could save everyone money by staying home. Fordham needs a miracle (joe will call it another sign from above) to take out Towson. Towson will have its hands full against EIU, but if Ambrose doesn't have a mental breakdown, Towson will emerge from this side of the bracket.

Maine's been a bit banged up lately...not the same team as they were earlier in the year. If they got healthy over the bye, I'd put them higher and say they win the bracket. Otherwise, UNH has been on a roll. SELO should take out the inconsistent SHSU. If the bracket was up North, it would be no contest. Since it will probably be down South, UNH or Maine will probably squeak by SELO. I'll call UNH the winner.

Take Montana out of Grizzyworld, and they'd be dead meat against the top half of the teams...defense counts outside the BCS, and we've seen two of their compatriots dismantled so far. I'd even take Coastal if it were at Coastal, but since it is not, the Griz fans get to experience a shallow victory against a BSC team at home. Furman got a gift in an MEAC first round opponent, but say goodbye to the SoCon. NDSU makes short work of the Griz and walks through this bracket.

Towson - UNH should be a good one as UNH is on fire. But, Towson probably wraps it up at home (again, if Ambrose doesn't outsmart himself). NDSU would beat SDSU handily, but we haven't seen the Bison beat a passing team (please do not bring up Lehigh...they don't count) in their two title runs. EWU won't stop anyone's offense, especially a running team, so NDSU should pull it out going away in the noisy dome.

Oddly enough, I'd pick Maine over NDSU because they have a passing threat. But in the end, I think NDSU beats both UNH and Towson in a tight game.

Well, it is a Big South team. They are only a slight step ahead of the MEAC and OVC (excluding EIU this year).

But hey, I always root for the Griz if they are playing almost anyone except the CAA teams. You've got some good peeps as fans (except that charity case HalfWit) and you get bonus points for having to put up with those EWU fans (kalm, you are a good exception to the rule) all year.

Sorry but I just can't rank SELA ahead of SDSU, we won in a head-to-head matchup.

Southeastern Louisiana was playing on the road, was -5 in turnover margin, and lost by 8 points. To be in the game at all with a -5 turnover margin is something else. If two teams are evenly matched and one is -5 you'd expect a multiple touchdown loss by that team.

In any case, power rating systems that take all game results into account including the head to head between the two teams generally have Southeastern Louisiana ranked higher. And that's not necessarily inconsistent with reality. The better team losing in any one game happens all the time. Like North Dakota State losing to Indiana State in 2012 due to turnovers. Whether that's what happened in the Southeastern Louisiana at South Dakota State game or not It happens.

Once again, I cannot stress this enough: WIn on the Road. It's not an excuse. Had SDSU beaten NDSU, they could have claimed "Well we lost on the road." Nice excuse as that may be.
An undisciplined team with poor ball security is a better team? SDSU is the superior team with superior ball security and turnover ratios. We are one of the top teams in the country on winning the turnover margins. That's not a fluke. Mistake free football. That's a team.

The good news if we lose to EWU, according to the apologists, we can just claim we were on the road. So, it's a non-counter.

How a team did in the playoffs every year other than this year means soooo much less than how good a team is this year.

Maybe we're talking about two different things. Eastern Illinois has not proven that they are going to win the playoffs this year. But they HAVE proven that they are an elite team capable of winning the championship (just like pretty much every team still in the playoffs).
