Well, they're good enough to be in the 3rd round and not sitting at home watching the action on TV.

Good is a relative term, of course.

JSU is in the 3rd round...and they ain't, "that good."

Coastal might be a good team, but they don't have a defense...so they ain't, "that good."

The Chanticleers have a chance to win this game, but not a great one. NoDak State will probably end up giving up more points than they're used to—CCU has a dangerous, balanced offense & they run no-huddle—but the Bison shouldn't have much trouble moving the ball because Coastal's D-Line sucks.

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- North Dakota St.

        Running Backs - (push)

        Receivers/TEs - Coastal Carolina

        Offensive Line - (push)

Defensive Line - North Dakota St.

        Linebackers --- (push)

        Secondary ---- North Dakota St.

        Kicking ------ Coastal Carolina

        Punting ------ North Dakota St.

Return Teams - North Dakota St.

        Kickoffs ------ Coastal Carolina

        • Coastal Carolina 20-35 North Dakota St.

North Dakota State coach Craig Bohl doesn't want this Saturday's quarterfinal playoff game with Coastal Carolina to be a shootout.
That's what Bohl saw in reviewing the Chanticleers' impressive 42-35 win Dec. 7 over No. 4/5 Montana.
With all of Coastal Carolina's offensive weapons - the Chants are ranked third in the FCS in scoring offense at 42.9 points - Bohl knows the Bison will have to score points too, as well as come up with some key defensive stops.
"We've scored a lot of points before, but that's not our MO. We will need to score," Bohl said. "To say you're going to hold them in single digits is not realistic. We're going to need to score some points. We're not equipped for a shootout.
Lorenzo Taliaferro also captured the attention of Coach Bohl. Taliaferro is third in the nation in rushing yards gained with 1,676 yards.
"That presents a big challenge right away," Bohl said. "Anytime you've got somebody that runs the football in whatever offensive formation they deploy, that presents problems because it puts your defense in a pass-run conflict."

I agree Ibanez. From the NoDakSt perspective that would be a worse case scenario b/c it means their D is getting shredded. Just like a TOP game for us is pretty bad news. With that said, here's to a 70-63 CCU win lol ;)

The no-huddle could cause issues with the Bison rotating players in on defense. The Bison are deep and depend on substitution to keep the players fresh and then dominate the second half. If the offense can grind the clock down the defense will stay fresh. So TOP is important to the Bison in that sense.

QB that is a tossup. But RB a push? I will have to disagree on.

I don't really know much about the Bison RB's, so hard to comment. But Tagliafero is a quality back who could start on any team in the FCS and a lot of BCS schools. Considering that CCU runs the option, you really have to think of the RB category as more of a Running category. CCU has great running QB's, with Ross not being the best. Ross is the better passer and overall QB, but Moglia has used the other QB's in some other games where he needed more speed at QB during substitutions. Will this come into play? Probably not. Moglia will need to have his passing game going or the NDSU DLine will eventually shut down the run.

I agree with the assessment for the most part, and think it's pretty accurate. I'm a CCU guy..(live in Myrtle and my son attends)...but in the end, I think the Bison will prevail in this one.

Jensen has comparable stats to Ross, but NDSU faced better defenses.

Taliaferro has better individual stats than either NDSU feature back, & CCU has a little more depth there than the Bison.

NDSU rotates the RB's so they are always fresh. Ojuri and Crocket will finish with over 1000 for the second straight season. Carries are almost even between the 2 and they average nearly 170 yards per game. Freshman Morlock will possibly replace Ojuri next year and he has looked good. Lang the FB is also a clutch player. Should be a great matchup on Saturday.

This game will be won in the trenches for the Bison. The O-line is the best in the FCS and will wear down the CC front 7 in the 2nd half.

CC's offense is good and will move the ball some but in the end the Bison depth will produce enough stops and the Bison offense will keep grinding the clock to keep the ball away from CC.

I think North Dakota State is going to win fairly easily but I also thought Coastal Carolina had NO shot going to Montana and playing in -13 F wind chill weather against Montana last week.

I understand that anybody who tries to anticipate the outcomes of football games on a regular basis is going to be wrong a lot. If you keep the "wrong" rate to 30% or less you're doing well and if you do that when you're picking games between pairs of good teams instead of larding up on obvious mismatches you're doing REALLY well. But if there was one thing I thought I was sure of it was that there was no way the boys from coastal South Carolina were going to win playing in subfreezing temperatures at Missoula.

So what will be will be. We'll just have to see.

CC has a very good offense but their defense is where they are going to lose this game.

The Bison defense will probably yield some yards but the Bison offense is going to keep their offense off the field.

Game will be close in the first half, and the Bison pull away in the 2nd. I keep looking a CCU score vs Furman and Montana. Then look at Montana vs USD and USD vs NDSU, NDSU vs Furman. Both big wins for the Bison on the scoreboard, while CCU And Montana had closer games. Transitive property doesn't usually mean anything, but who knows.
