Re: American Football = Olympic Sport?
Wait. What?Because of logistics and a cap on the number of overall athletes invited to participate, the most likely style of American football that would potentially gain acceptance is of the seven-on-seven variety already played by some U.S. high schools and youth programs. Having both men’s and women’s competitions also would likely be required for selection as an Olympic sport.

I don't see it happening. How can you field full teams from other countries? USA vs Canada with USA destroying them. Who wants to see that?

I hope not. IMO, only sports where the gold medal is the highest award internationally should be included. Baseball.. nope. Soccer... uh-uh. American football... no way.

No NFL players are going to take the risk of playing for an olympic team. Otherwise there might be even less parity than there is in whatever international women's football league it is that SH follows.andy7171 wrote:I don't see it happening. It seems like there is some kind of football world cup if I'm not mistaken and the US doesn't dominate it.

Why would we want this? Once that happens they would set up an international body that would dicate the world rules for football. That's why we played basketball all those years with weird European rules - we let someone else tell us how our game should be played. I don't need to see football at the Olympics, I see football enough as it is. The Olympics are the perfect place for those sports that very few people ever do or never thought to do as uber-competitively as they do - like badmitton and ping pong.

We could put together a CS.com team with just people who post here regularly and win the gold. Hell between me, Cap'n and D1B we just need a couple guards and the OL will be impenetrable.

Where have you been, 89? The gold medal IS the highest award in American Football. That's been so for guys since sometime before Y2K, and for women since 2010. There's even a junior level international gold medal.89Hen wrote:I hope not. IMO, only sports where the gold medal is the highest award internationally should be included. Baseball.. nope. No. Someone having a gold medal in American Football means nothing compared to them having a Super Bowl ring.SuperHornet wrote:Where have you been, 89? Well, at least in women's olympic football the winner may not be a foregone conclusion.CAA Flagship wrote:Wait. The first few international champions on the men's side were NOT the US...in fact, I think there were some pretty good games between Mexico and Japan. Of course, our biggest rivals right now (just like on the women's side) just might be Canada. Of course, Germany WAS the first team to score on the US Women....Mvemjsunpx wrote:Well, at least in women's olympic football the winner may not be a foregone conclusion.CAA Flagship wrote:

I'm in. As long as I can play RG. And I don't think D1B has the mental capacity to handle remembering more than 3 plays. Where is Franks Tanks when you need him?89Hen wrote:Don't forget Andy.CID1990 wrote:We could put together a CS.com team with just people who post here regularly and win the gold. In High School I was all conference both ways because I was to slow to run off the field when possession changed (my story)....I would fit in real well with this group now 37 years later!

Naturally, I was responding to your bogus insinuation that there's no international championship for American Football.89Hen wrote:WTF are you talking about??SuperHornet wrote:

He's certainly entitled to his OPINION, clenz. It's a free country after all. Nobody, least of all YOU, will convince me that he's RIGHT, however. Because he is as wrong as wrong can be....

The Super Bowl is the highest possible award in American Football. You cannot argue this.SuperHornet wrote:He's certainly entitled to his OPINION, clenz. It's a free country after all. Nobody, least of all YOU, will convince me that he's RIGHT, however. Because he is as wrong as wrong can be....
Re: American Football = Olympic Sport?
The fact that this is a forum of males who spend thousands of hours a year watching/taking football and no one besides you knows what the fuck league you are taking about proves you wrong.
When was the last time ESPN, FOX, NBCSN, etc... showed one of their games...let alone had the league start their own tv network dedicated 100 percent to it?
The Super Bowl has 2 weeks leading to the game that is nothing except taking about it, the pregame shows are 8 to 10 hours long...
Not a single second has ever been spent on some gold medal.
Am NFL team made up of strictly journeyman practice squad players would blow any national team out of the water, and it wouldn't be close.

Re: American Football = Olympic Sport?
Most of the international leagues have a "one American" rule- only one American can be on the field at any given time for a team. Just about all the German teams have an American QB.SuperHornet wrote:The first few international champions on the men's side were NOT the US...in fact, I think there were some pretty good games between Mexico and Japan. That tells you the quality of players our Olympic team would be up against. Hell we wouldn't even need the beef on the OL- even SK would be throwing knockdown blocks.
