I wasn't necessarily talking about the players.

Oh, you must be talking about the executive cmte. of the Board of Trustees, the Second Mile Foundation and Gov. Corbett.

Very, um, interesting hire if true. Some Miami fans will be happy at least.

Golden is officially out, but only officially.

Franklin agreed to terms with Penn State, but Vanderbilt countered. It is still up in the air.

Greg Roman interviewed with Penn State on Monday in Chicago. He was my personal favorite from the beginning and almost got the job two years ago.

If Franklin falls through, I'm all about the Greg Roman.

A Penn State plane went from State College to Destin, FL (where Jim Franklin has a winter home) and took off en route to State College three hours after landing in Destin.

You can draw your own conclusions.

Much like Texas, the Penn State job just ain't what it used to be.

And both of them aren't nearly what their fan bases/media make it out to be.

The institutions do a "Great" job at making it seem MUCH bigger than it is.

Texas has just 3 conference titles since the B12 was formed and just 7 conference titles since 1977.

Penn State, since joining the B10, has just 1 conference title that still stands (1994) and if including the vacated ones just 4 in that time...and only 1 outright title.

Texas is easily one of the top jobs in the country and what they have done football wise doesn't change that. They can pay you a ton of money if you earn it and are easily the top program in a very good recruiting state.

Mack Brown has been like Mark Richt at Georgia. He's right on the border line of what is acceptable to the program and often manages to save his own butt just in the nick of time. Brown apparently just couldn't do it this time.

Reportedly James Franklin from Vandy is the hire.

I think he'll do a good job at PSU - both he & his coordinators are from the Mid-Atlantic which will help recruiting. They still have a lot to overcome with the sanctions but a good hire IMO.

Texas A&M might have a thing or two to say about that. SEC>>>Big 12.

That remains to be seen with the loss of Johnny Football. I don't think Texas as a team is that good, but the program presents itself as better than the rest of the Texas schools. And the general public buys that notion.

TJ is spot on here. TAM has been more successful the past couple of years but UT has the resources ($, network, etc.) to make it one of the top jobs in the country.
