and be a sub .500 playoff quarterback..?

That's a legit question
Yes. Football is a team game and you can't pin losses completely on the QB, just like you can't give Brady all of the credit for his 3 SB wins.
those wins being to Vinnetari, and the fucked up tuck rule, if we are giving it to a single person....

Yeah... but a pick-six to end the final drive against the Saints in the Super Bowl?
come on man

and this isn't about Brady (who has become Average at best)

I guess I'll just refer you to this:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2013/st ... ands-alone" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The whole greatest ever argument is largely subjective, but I think a pretty good case can be made for Manning...especially if he wins on Sunday :twocents:

and the onside kick to start the second half completely changed that game...why not blame the special teams for that? More specifically Hank Baskett who had that ball hit him on the face mask... Why not blame the special yams for the second recovered onside kick later in the 4th? Why not blame the defense for giving up 17 second half points and giving up the half time lead? Why not blame Matt Stover for missing a FG that would have given Indy a bigger in the 4tg that could have completely shifted the game...instead NO got the ball near the 50 and scored to take the lead and covert a 2pt conversion..

Manning shouldn't even have had to have been in that situation.

But yes...blame the guy who was 31/45 for 333 yards with a td....clearly he fucked the team over with his play

The article concludes by saying that Manning has taken the position to where no man has before...
and I suppose that is correct to some degree - and - no one could argue he isn't the best QB right now

and I see the Manning apologists lining up around the block already if the Broncos lose

I will say this:
If the Broncos do lose Manning sinks lower on the list
of one win super bowl quarterbacks with a losing playoff record :ohno:

And: That's not a list where the greatest of all time sits

so let's say manning throws for 340 and 4 td but the Broncos lose 38-35...that's his fault?

Holy shit....

Of course. Just like Marino and Sanders suck because they never had good enough teams around them to win a SB.

Peyton Manning gets $20M per year to play QB. He gets all the credit and all the blame. It's not written in his contract but it should be. That's how it works.

The fact remains that if he loses, he'll likely finish his career with a losing SB record. It hasn't hurt Elway, historically, but Elway did go to what, 5? And his teams got blown out 3 times. There's a reason Montana rates higher than Elway. Elway is the better talent (Manning likewise) but Montana, like Brady, has done more in crunch time. No one disputes that Marino and Sanders aren't all-timers, but Manning will join them if he has "just one" Lombardi trophy. Multiple playoff successes are weighted more highly than regular season records. Manning is more Steve Young than he is Joe Montana. Sorry, but the rings argument will always hold more water. Note that I said "rings" (plural). That's so we can exclude bums like Dilfer or Hostetler who rode the backs of more-talented teammates to the top and were never expected to carry their teams there alone.

Marino would be licking his chops with today's NFL rules concerning QB's and pass defense.

As would any QB from the era where a defensive halfback could physically abuse the receiver up and down the field....

Eli, all time great

And there are kids going into middle school now that have never seen Brady win a Super Bowl, they did see him lose two however.

Who said anything about Canada? How would YOU like to run a route against Jack Tatum? Why don't you ask Darryl Stingley how that turned out?

:ohno:
If you're referring to the current illegal contact rule, that had nothing to do with the Stingley injury. Stingley was hurt in 1978, the year the 5-yard rule was implemented, and he was also hit after the ball went by.

They are only called defensive halfbacks in Canadian football.

That's right now. Back in the day of US one-platoon football, halfbacks usually played what we today would call CB.
