ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Falcons obtained tight end Tony Gonzalez from the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday for a draft pick next year.
The Falcons will send a second-round pick in 2010 to Kansas City in exchange for Gonzalez, the only tight end in NFL history selected to 10 Pro Bowls, the Chiefs announced.
Gonzalez caught 96 passes for 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2008. He owns NFL career records for tight ends with 916 receptions, 10,940 yards receiving, 76 TDs receiving and 26 100-yard receiving games.
I know he's old, but this is practically a steal in my mind, he doesn't need to be the star on that team and he provides Matt Ryan with another solid receiving threat besides Roddy White. Falcons seem to be making all the right moves.... mmmm, Tom Cruise... so dreamy... er, I mean... since Vick left the team.
But I STILL think that the ATL would be MUCH better off with Bartkowski under center.
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
Commentator 1: "Do you think the Falcons made a good deal on the Gonzalez trade?"
Commentator 2: "Yeah they did! Arthur Blank is Jewish, he knows a good deal when he sees one!"
