Group A kicked off the Olympics in Sochi this morning. USA beat Finland 3-1 at midnight Cali time, thanks to Hilary Knight's goal 53 seconds into the game, and Canada followed by skunking Switzerland 5-0 at 5 AM. (No, I wasn't crazy enough to be up to watch the live games.)
Group B hits the ice tomorrow at the same times. Sweden vs. Japan in the early game, and Russia vs. Germany in the other.
Scheduling reserves the hockey spotlight for the ladies until Wednesday, when the guys get started.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
