To be fair to the Mets, while they were horrible early on, they are 28-21 since June 16. Wouldn't be surprised if they finish at or above .500 by the end of the season. While not great, they were horrible early on this year, haven't had a good season in years and have a bunch of decent young players (especially pitchers).grizzaholic wrote:Didn't your Phils just fall behind the Mets?93henfan wrote:

Andy was right, you really have a poor choice in teams.

I would've canned Amaro first, but so be it. They should've let the old guy finish the year. They'll be lucky to hit 70 wins no matter who manages them.

As discussed a couple of hours ago, I agree. Amaro is a disaster, and Chollie deserved the chance to finish the year.Ivytalk wrote:I would've canned Amaro first, but so be it. They should've let the old guy finish the year. They'll be lucky to hit 70 wins no matter who manages them.

Another day, another shutout. These guys play with as much enthusiasm as a bunch of nuns at an orgy.

I've never been to an orgy with real nuns, but I bet they'd be pretty enthusiastic if they were willing to show up there in the first place.Ivytalk wrote:Another day, another shutout. These guys play with as much enthusiasm as a bunch of nuns at an orgy.

Hey, AZGF, every time I think of how bad Papschmear has been this year, it could have been worse: we could have had Heath Bell!

Good to see Halladay pitch so well in his first game back. His best years are behind him, but the guy works hard and is a true professional.

At least they're playing with a pulse for Sandberg. For all the moaning about Chollie's dismissal the sleepwalking should be evident...

How 'bout that Cole Hamels! Six wins by the end of August! At this rate, he may hit 8 for the year...

The Philadelphia Phillies and pitcher A.J. Burnett reached an agreement Wednesday on a one-year deal worth $16 million, a source confirmed to ESPN.com.
Burnett and the Phillies have to work through some additional details before the deal will be announced, the source said.

Re: Phillies 2013 "Road to Redemption" Thread
I was going to make a joke about the Phillies getting older but even Burnett may bring down the average.
Oof.

Hamels will start the season on the DL. That ain't good.
Re: Phillies 2013 "Road to Redemption" Thread
The Phillies are years away from being a decent team again. Need to rebuild all the young talent that was mortgaged for all the aces that didn't bring any additional rings.SunCoastBlueHen wrote:Hamels will start the season on the DL. That ain't good.

Yeah, things look pretty bleak for the foreseeable future. Luckily, prolonged periods of shitty baseball are nothing new to Philly fans.93henfan wrote:The Phillies are years away from being a decent team again. Please name me any of those prospects that have actually done something for more than one season?Need to rebuild all the young talent that was mortgaged for all the aces that didn't bring any additional rings.
The only one so far may be Cosart, but he still walks too many people.
And I hate people like you who argue that Amaro brought in the aces without any rings. First, playoffs are a crap shoot so the best team doesn't always win. Second, the phils had their best season ever under those aces, so I consider it a success.

Meanwhile, the cupboard was left bare and we owe how many million to Ryan Howard and Papelbon?
Just admit that RA Jr is in the bottom two or three of all MLB GMs and move on. Unless he's family, why bother defending a miserable failure?

So when did this one happen because that is a mix of funny and sad? If you look at the crowd behind, I can't see anyone reacting to this which surprises me.Gil Dobie wrote:
