I'm pretty sure Canada just fucked us without a rubber for two days straight.

Quebec would surrender immediately. The rest could be paid off with Molsons and Elsinores.

Coming down to the wire. It's a four-horse race now. USA vs Russia for total medals. Norway holding a very slim lead for golds. Netherlands and Germany out of the conversation.

COUNTRY Gold Silver Bronze Totals
Russia 10 10 7 27
United States 9 7 11 27
Norway 11 5 9 25
Canada 9 10 5 24

Our hockey teams and speed skaters can all point the fingers at themselves in the race for gold.

I think it has more to do with a poorly managed/funded program currently (see comments from one of our female skaters earlier in the week), a few head cases among our athletes, an aging group of athletes, and the UA suits were just the final spark to set off a reason to underachieve and bitch about it.

UA makes good stuff, but there has to be R&D and excellent communication between manufacturer and end user. If the USA program is as dysfunctional as the skaters say it is, then perhaps UA wasn't allowed the access and time needed to get it right.

On a somewhat related note, did you hear about the Germans complaining about their bobsleds? They were extra pissed because BMW built the sleds for the USA teams that won medals. :thumb:

You might be right about the girls (definite choke job). But you are DEFINITELY right about the boys. They up and quit in the third period today.

5-0 loss to Finland. These American NHL mopes couldn't have beaten the Mexican hockey team today -- and I'm pretty fucking sure Mexico doesn't have a hockey team.

Still three events left, but the Russians have effectively won both the gold and total medal counts:

COUNTRY Gold Silver Bronze Totals
Russia 13 11 9 33
United States 9 7 12 28
Norway 11 5 10 26
Canada 9 10 5 24

Bah! Cindy Crosby scores on a breakaway to put America's Hat up 2-0 on Sweden late 2nd pd. Bad turnover by the meatballs. They had been playing well.

Cindy did make a brief appearance in Minnesota, playing his Sophomore season at Shattuck St Mary's, scoring 72 goals, with 90 assists in 57 games. Cindy took over for Zach Parise who had 77 goals and 101 assists, in 67 games, at Shattuck the previous season.

Excuses. I didn't read anything about the dysfunction, but clearly they peaked too soon in the World Championships (which the team dominated according to an announcer).

For the most part it was an epic disappointment by the USA this Olympics. Aside from a few notable accomplishments (2 man bobsled medal, women's skeleton medal, first medal in a few other competitions in decades) I thought we sucked.

It all started when Hannah Kearney blew the gold in the womens mogul on night 1. Then snowboarding shat the bed and didnt even medal and it snowballed from there. Then the speed skating embarrassment (heads should roll for this disaster) caped by the women's hockey shitting the bed and men's hockey just completely giving up. Most of our medals are bronze...fucking bronze.

The Ruskies came to play. On the final day, they sweep the podium in 50 click cross country. :notworthy:

They switched suits and they still sucked. Not UA's fault.

Four of Russia's gold medals were won by a Korean and one of their gold medals was won by an American.

The problem is that they trained at altitude before the Olympics. Sochi is sea level. The Dutch train at (or below) sea level all year.

Norway's medal count is impressive considering their population. I think they're the winners in this. :twocents:

The fact that Norway and Canada are in the conversation speaks volumes about the relavancy of the winter olympics.

It would be like Torson making the national championship game.
