News Sources

Post by kalm »

Outside of the obvious non-biased places (Rolling Stone, Truthout, Common Dreams, Salon  ) what's your latest go-to for news and politics?

I've been hitting up The Intercept and Republic Report a little lately but they are both too narrowly focused. Atlantic Monthly and the Baffler have some great writing but arent as current.

I'm tired of the sensationalistic, infotainment, and yes often left leaning sites like Yahoo and Huffpo.

What say you?

I don't really have a go to source. I Google things and then follow tangents. Foreign sources give great perspectives.

I also like reading the links some folks post (Chizzy likes to spout "facts" while pretending links don't exist :ohno: ), and then following them down the rabbit hole. That tends to give perspective from both sides, and then you can bland in the foreign view point to come to the only logical conclusion:

Obama is not CHANGE. Chump change, maybe, but certainly not CHANGE.
These signatures have a 500 character limit?

What if I have more personalities than that?

Mine are unfortunately pretty straightforward:
ABC
CBS
NBC
CNN
Fox
Yahoo
Guardian

I'm a little like Cluck with chasing down obscure things at times. Lots of times I'll have a tab open for news and a Wiki page for reference along with a Google map tab to find out where some of the events are happening. I could spend all day looking at Google maps.

I read the Chicago Tribune on a regular basis. I'll check articles in the NY Times and WSJ occasionally. The Washington Post Writers Group has some excellent opinion pieces from different perspectives. I have HBR, the Economist and Fareed Zacharia on my Facebook feed. When I travel overseas I'll read the International Herald Tribune and watch CNN and BBC. I browse Yahoo and MSN but for fluff pieces and not for hard news or opinions. Like Cluck, I'll follow the links that others provide here to help expand my understanding and perspective.

I also try to read/listen to books on a variety of subjects so I can take a longer term view of things rather than knee-jerk reactions to the latest developments.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

I don't have one go-to source. I tend to be all over the place, although I seldom watch FoxNews or MSNBC.

And I'll admit. I'll read links off of Drudge Report and then go find an article on the same event, person (whatever) somewhere else. I like reading both points of view.
