Rahe wins Coach of the Year

Gotta say I don't agree with this one. Weber did win the league as expected, but they still underachieved a little in terms of record (this was perhaps Weber's worst team in 6 years). I think Jack Murphy of NAU should've won, especially after finishing in a tie for second despite Dewayne Russell's defection just before the season.

Brad Huse, MSU's head coach, resigned today. I am sure the bobcatnation board will be full of happiness.

I was thinking Murphy or Katz to be honest

Had Sac won a game in the BSCT it would have been hard to not vote for Katz. I agree that NAU has had the most impressive turnaround from those teams on the bottom last season. Murphy should have gotten the nod.

Portland State lost to San Diego in the first round of the CIT 87-65. The Viks were outshot 54%-38%, and that's the only stat that really mattered in this one.

NoDak & UNC went down in their first-round CIT games as well, leaving Weber as the only Big Sky men's team left standing in the postseason. Troy Huff crossed the 2000-point mark for his career in their loss at Nebraska-Omaha, while Tate Unruh & Derrick Barden combined for 33 points in their final games for NoCo (losing at home to Corpus Christi).

I think we all realized that about 6 games into the season.

Yep… The Big Sky did rank better in the RPI than last year, though.

Ummm...What future mirror did you have? We all knew that UM and Weber would be shitty....and hoping about UNC (they sucked the minute they left their home court)...

NoDak's women lost to Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAAs, 70-55. UND played the Aggies close in the first half, but TAMU opened the game up at the start of the second. Madi Buck led the No-Nicks with 22 points and 9 boards in her final game, but no other UNDers finished in double figures. North Dakota, who was 6th. nationally in rebounding margin coming in, lost the boards by 13 to the Aggies.

This leaves the Lady Griz as the only Big Sky team (either gender) with games left to play. They host San Diego in the second round of the WNIT tomorrow.

JR Payne Gone

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

SUU women's coach JR Payne has left to become the head coach at Santa Clara. She had been the head coach at Suutah for the past 5 seasons and led the T-Birds to a school-record 23 wins and their first-ever national postseason appearance (WNIT) in 2013-14. She was an assistant at SCU in '08-09 and played at fellow WCC school St. Mary's in the mid-to-late '90s.

Jaime White Departs, too

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Now Northern Colorado's Jaime White is gone, leaving for Fresno State. She became the UNC head coach when they joined the Big Sky in 2006, and has a school-record 115 wins.

So the Bears will get D'Shara Strange back from injury, but a major change at the top may temper their potential to contend again next year.

White's replacement has now been hired. The Bears went with longtime Kansas State assistant Kamie Ethridge.

SUU finally hired a replacement today. They got Chris Boettcher, who was the head coach of the Shiga Lakestars in Japan last season and a BYU assistant for the previous four.

Ethridge has a great resume. I'm surprised we got her.

On the men's side. We've got two transfers coming in, one forward from Rice (Drew Bender) and one guard from Colorado State (Dwight Smith).
