Ron Paul... Swine Flu

Post by JMU DJ »

I used to not agree with this guys ideals, but recently, I've found over the past year that this guy doesn't seem to be as crazy as he might appear...
Ron Paul on the Swine Flu Scare

Congressman Paul recently called for more caution (and less Homeland Security overreach) in facing swine flu cases, and cited previous dangerous missteps by the federal government in this area.

Maybe I'm finding myself politically, but this is probably one of the first conservatives political ideals I can listen to without wanting to drive a nail through my head... maybe I just prefer people who at least sound like they've thought through what they are talking about instead of stuttering through a speech or reading from a card... anyway, I thought this was the most rational, non-panicky/fear driven message I'd heard about the swine flu.

To me RP is what a conservative truly is. Not many others calling themselves that are. A couple of years ago I went through and read a lot of his stuff on his congressional website and was thoroughly impressed with how acurate he was after the passage of some time. He doesn't just knee jerk his responses and sticks to his core beliefs no matter what the subject. I love the guy.

If there were more libertarian doctors in the Congress and fewer bloviating lawyers (like me), the country would be better off.

God bless Ron Paul!

Welcome to the club DJ. The Ron Paul contingent is a good crowd. Seeing him speak last week at Wake Forest and getting to meet him, you can tell he's doing this because it is what he believes. I've seen many politicians speak, and he seems to be every bit of genuine as I thought he would be. He has his beliefs, and so far, he's proven to be the smartest and best at prognostication in Washington (I know, I know not setting the bar too high).

Ron Pal himself is one of the most intelligent, thoughtful, honest and responsible public figures of our generation. Some of is followers can get out of hand, though, and misrepresent his ideals.

I think that's what turned me off to him, I have friends who are adamant Ron Paul supporters who got in my face about how much of an unenlightened asshole I am because I didn't subscribe to Ron Paul's issues... like I give a shit if anyone thinks I'm stupid for my beliefs, but if you're going to be an arrogant dick about yours, chances are I won't listen... I think those guys are still fanatical douche bags, but Ron seems cool, collected and appears to have a good track record of sticking to his guns and not flip flopping or wavering.

The panic over swine flu is insane. There are so many more and worse diseases/problems in the world we could be focusing on. But since Americans are being affected by it, its suddenly a pandemic. 700 cases worldwide such an insignificant figure. Yes it should be a small concern and a vaccine should be found so it doens't have the potential to spread. But there doesn't need to be any hype around it. Imagine what could be done for the world if other problems were given this much spotlight.

Yeah, it's like he says in the video... Tuberculosis killed a ton of people in America last year, but you rarely ever hear about it. I also found it funny what John Stewart had to say about the Swine Flu.
Swine flu claims 149 lives in Mexico so far — ranking it last on the list of things that can kill you in Mexico.
