That's it - Costa Rica through to the next round after beating Italy 1-0 - buh bye England and now Italy has to play a tie or better game against a game Uruguay team for them to go through.
Oh, and keep in mind - no European team has ever won the World Cup outside of a European time zone (they only time they won outside of Europe was the last World Cup in South America, but still the same time zone as the Continent). You figure now that Spain's out, England's out, Greece/Croatia/Italy all have final games they need to do well in to advance, Portugal's in trouble, and Russia has an uphill climb. Meanwhile the South American countries (well, outside of Ecuador, but they're really crap) and CONCACAF (well, outside of Honduras, but they're kinda crap as well) have stepped up so far. No wonder UEFA was adamant about trying to keep the tournament in Europe every other time.
CONCACAF now 4-1-1 with wins over Uruguay and Italy (both from Ticos), Ghana, and Cameroon, tie to host Brazil and only loss to France (really poor showing by Honduras)
Still to go:
England - Costa Rica
Croatia - Mexico
Portugal and Germany - US
Ecuador and Switzerland - Honduras
European teams have struggled comparing to the South Americans so hopefully this will be an advantage as we only have 1 left

I don't see how that's possible as no time zone in South America also runs through continental Europe. If you want to count Greenland (owned by Denmark) that's a real stretch.

Germany have still looked better than any South American team so far.

Think he Fuxed up and meant "South Africa"
Yikes, I did type it wrong. Zonks, Shaggy, thanks for catching that.

Eh, they played a team from the Iberian Penisula. We've seen how those teams have fared so far. Let's see Germany play someone from the Western Hemisphere first. With that said, I love Germany (Klose's one of my favorite players, although he's long in the tooth now) and yes, they are very good. Not sure they're going to be good enough to beat the host country (weird calls seem to go to the host) and Argentina is going to be a real tough team to beat, but you never know.

That was also against a Portugal team who was down to 10 men for the majority of the game. Not saying you are overall wrong but they didn't face the full squad for most of the game. Remember that the Dutch looked great in their first game too but did just enough to win against Australia. (this is my American take on things anyway)

And Brazil couldn't manage a goal against a CONCACAF team that only qualified thanks to a meaningless goal from the US. Not taking anything away from Mexico's keeper, but home field only gets you so far against a team as talented as Germany. No doubt they've choked in the latter stages of the past few major tourneys, but they look hungry to rectify that.
