World Lacrosse Championships

Post by CAA Flagship »

Denver, Colorado.

Just like soccer's World Cup, the World Championships in lacrosse are played every 4 years. This year it returns to the USA for the first time since 1998 (Baltimore). The USA and Canada are the only two countries to have won the event which dates back to 1967. This year there are 32 teams in the event which has grown rapidly in the last 20 years (6 entries in 1994).

The USA beat Canada 10-7 to open up the action in a Pool Play match.
There are four 20-minute quarters that are running clocks (but they count down like they are supposed to), but no shot clock (used in the MLL).

The big problem with this sport is the same as with hockey; the ball is small and hard to follow. It is worse than hockey in that it is not nearly as fast. But scoring is plentiful. If a team is down by 5 goals, it is not over.

Many of the games are on TV so give it a look-see.
