As we reported in February, O'Day has been involved in serious nonconference scheduling talks with Football Championship Subdivision powers such as Appalachian State since December.
The A.D. confirmed on Thursday that the Grizzlies are close to striking a couple of intriguing deals, one with the Mountaineers and another with a separate FCS stalwart.
"It looks very, very promising," O'Day said. "It's going to be a few years before we can pull it off. It appears 2012 and '13 is what we're looking at. And we're also looking at another partner in it, that being McNeese State. And that looks like it could be 2016- 17."
You telling me that we are going to have to wait 3 more freaking YEARS to see these two teams play???

If there is a God, we will meet in Chatty this year....our two teams can't seem to get our act together in the playoffs...
(BTW...Appa will return to the Zoo in 2012-2013...consider yourselves forewarned)

I'd like to see us play any of the MVC teams, to be honest.
Agreed. Anything but SUU/UC Davis every year. If that's gonna be the case, merge the damned conferences. Variety is the spice of life! I want NDSU, SDSU, UNI, YSU, Indiana State, Missouri State....you know....THE CUPCAKES of MVC.

Whoa... slow down guy, a 3 point win isnt EXACTLY a bitch slap. If i was an ASU fan, I would cherish Mr. Edwards bc we *ALL KNOW* ASU aint winnin another NC without him.

Actually, I think that was part of the deal. If we played while AE was still at App then they guarantee was double but if we waited until he graduated then the amount was dropped....

Richie is still my favorite player.
I got lambasted over at the other site for saying the Eastern Washington game was no where near as close as the final score indicates. App was up 21-7 at the half and terrible special teams play allowed the Eagles to keep it close.

That's right. We forgot that special teams aren't part of the team, and their play doesn't count in the final score.

It does. I'm just saying, that from my seat in the stadium, I wasn't impressed with any other facet of the Eagles' game. I believe the ASU defense held the EWU offense well below their season average. Poor special teams play allowed the Eagles two or three scoring opportunities from inside the 10-yard line.
The Eagles weren't doing much else during the game without those breaks.

Still counts in the final score. The score was exactly as close as the game. ASU won the offensive battle....EWU won the special teams battle...ASU squeaked one out. Montana had no business beating JMU last year, but the defensive effort (turnovers) was the difference-maker. Shit happens all the time.

I love how everyone makes excuses for why we lost or why the game was so close. It doesnt matter if they got special teams, defensive or offensive breaks. They are all part of the game and to say that teams got lucky is a load of bull. If it happened it happened and if it turned the tide of the game oh well. It still is legitimate that EWU gave ASU all they could handle DESPITE how they went about it.
