2008 Montana OOC

Post by putter »

Rumor has it (supposedly this was in the game program) that Montana is playing -- so far

8/30 - TBA
9/6 - Western State of Colorado
9/13 - Southern Utah
9/20 - UC Davis

Not bad but I hope the 8/30 is a quality FCS program.

So next year must be one of those years where teams can play 12 games, if the Griz are scheduling 4 OOC games. If all 3 of those games listed are home games then maybe they are looking for a play-up, FBS road game to open the season? Having 3 home OOC games plus the 4 home conference games would give them 7 home games. Would they try to schedule a 4th home OOC game to give them 8 home games total??? I know they will be relatively inexperienced next season so starting the season with a FBS road game would be kind of tough, I would think, especially if it's a big money game against a Big 12, Big 10, Pac 10 type of team.

I believe you are right about the 12 games. I don't know about an FBS team as the payout would need to be pretty high but there are some talking on eGriz about a top FCS opponent.

You are correct. I hope that this game gets bought out in place of someone better, however, the last few weeks Griz fans have heard more than once, from the coaches, about how NAU has "scheduled themselves out of the playoffs" with their difficult OOC schedule. This could be the nail in the coffin for getting rid of the D2 game. :x

I could name a D-III program and a couple of NAIA programs that would give the Griz better competition than Western State.

We have one in our own state, Carroll College, that would give the Griz a better game.

To what other school would a fan of eGriz (if not the Griz themselves) be referring?

The AD said that Montana is setting up a 5 year deal with Cal Poly and the UC Davis game is a multi-year deal also. Some faint rumors that Montana was talking with Notre Dame! Here is the quote " asked him about Notre Dame and he said no way it would happen, they don't want us, looking at our record this year vs what their record is, they're thinking it could be Michigan vs App St all over again, if they book anyone it will be a bottom-feeder FCS team" He also said they considered trying to get NDSU to play them in Vegas but it never went beyond that.

NDSU won't travel to Montana first. I do know that we would love to sign a home and home with the Griz, but game 1 would have to be in Fargo according to the powers that be at NDSU.

Can't blame NDSU for that. I guess the Poly series starts @ SLO because the Griz do owe them a game which is nice. UC Davis series, hopefully, would run opposite to the conference schedule with Sac. I can't see the Griz flying to Sacramento twice in one year.

When will Montana learn their lesson? :ugeek: :geek: The purpose of going to college is to get smarter....to learn something....you do not play a bunch of cream puffs each year just to build up your record.
It doesn't do your team any good. :!: Get to the playoffs and go out in the first round again.....play at home in the first round. As it is now teams are wanting to come to Montana to win. Pretty sad for a once proud program....maybe there is a high school team in New Mexico that you could schedule.

Oh yeah? Then explain this:

What FBS school had the following OOC schedule?

Home vs. a 7-4 non-playoff FCS Gateway school
Home vs. 4-8 and 3-9 MAC schools
Away vs. a 3-9 Pac-10 school

Here's a blinking hint: they're in the B(C)$ Title game, and they're freaking #1 in the B(C)$ so-called poll.

We already came there 06 Sept 03 when you were ranked 3rd in the country. I believe the score was 25-24 for a Bison win. Your turn to come play at our house.

Was surly relieved that UM found a different opponent than Western State. That is certainly a turn for the better.

This is the Montana Grizzlies 2008 Schedual:

Date ..... Opponent ..... Time
9.6 ..... at Cal Poly ..... TBA
9.13 ..... Southern Utah ..... 1:05 p.m.
9.20 ..... UC-Davis (Homecoming) ..... 1:05 p.m.
9.27 ..... Central Washington ..... 1:05 p.m.
10.4 ..... at Weber State * ..... TBA
10.11 ..... at Eastern Washington * ..... TBA
10.18 ..... Sacramento State * ..... 1:05 p.m.
10.25 ..... at Northern Colorado * ..... TBA
11.1 ..... Northern Arizona * ..... 12:05 p.m.
11.8 ..... at Portland State * ..... TBA
11.15 ..... Idaho State * ..... 12:05 p.m.
11.22 ..... Montana State * (108th meeting) ..... 12:05 p.

And i just have to say all you APP State fans...you beat Michigan LAST YEAR. Get over it. APP State as well has schedualed some "Cream Puff" teams to make themselves look better. Not to mention you beisdes Georgia Southern and Woffered (on a good year) You have one of the weakest conferences imaginable. I will give you credit for winning the 1-AA three years in a row (very luckily in some games) but im afraid if you lose edwards your whole team is going to go down. When they lose in the playoffs this year its going to be great.

Lord help me....I don't believe I'm going to do what I'm about to do....

SOCON is not a weak conference...their collective SOS is stronger than BCS...

Yea, you're right...LSU is a CREAM PUFF...

I don't see anything like that on the Griz schedule (or for that matter...any BSC schedule)...

You are correct...when they lose AE (the best player I've ever seen in IAA/FCS) they will fall...problem is, they have him again this year...

I'd like UMass to get another shot at ASU while AE is under center...don't know if that will happen this year...but, at least WE have had a shot... 8-)

Well lets see, APP State has Georgia Southern, wofford and...hmm dont really know of any other well named teams from the SOCON. And i wasnt reffering to this year as having cream puff teams, im reffering to the past years of APP State. And for a matter of fact i do think when i post so...yeah maybe you need to keep you "so called smart observations" to yourself please, and im not the fool with a womans ass for an avatar    . The point im trying to make is that App State just because they were good last year doesnt mean they will win it this year. And they did get lucky, all that seperated JMU from beating them...a fumble. thats it. They just have to much hype, and im reffering to if AE gets injured thank you very much  .
