Justice Souter to Retire

Post by TwinTownBisonFan »

NPR has learned that Supreme Court Justice David Souter is planning to retire at the end of the court's current term.

The court has completed hearing oral arguments for the year and will be issuing rulings and opinions until the end of June.

Souter is expected to remain on the bench until a successor has been chosen and confirmed, which may or may not be accomplished before the court reconvenes in October.

At 69, Souter is nowhere near the oldest member of the court, but he has made clear to friends for some time now that he wanted to leave Washington, a city he has never liked, and to return to his native New Hampshire.
oooh a scotus fight :-D

let's find a nice healthy 28 year old to serve 60 years or so ;-)

Perfect time if he is going to retire. 60 Dems in the Senate, no chance of whomever Obama appoints not sailing through.

Least he is replacing a liberal one. I'll really have my worries if one of the 4, sometimes 5, conservative ones were to be replaced. Kennedy being the moderate.

To be fair don't you think Obama should appoint a conservative since GHW Bush appointed a liberal?

How Far To The Extreme Left Will Obama Go?

Post by travelinman67 »

Socialist?

Communist?

Subversive?

Activist?

How far to the left will the Dems go now that they can appoint Fidel Castro to the Supreme Court and there's no way to stop them?

A President with a sense of humor could have a lot of fun with the wack jobs over the next few months. Mitch McConnel will be all swelled up and redder than a wedding dick.

There going to need defibrilators on the floor of the House. Should be a great show.

Wedgebuster, the Harriet Myers joke (making fun of her and the fact she was tapped) never gets old. I was in law school when that happened, and all we could think was how much more qualified we were than she. Anyways, I am glad to see Souter stepping down, especially after Kelo v. New London. I think, just to make things interesting at the SCOTUS, he should appoint Bill Clinton.
