That reminds me...we had a local team that beat their competitor 2 times during the regular season...and beat them badly. Then they whomped on them in the playoffs. They were undefeated for the entire season, and then lost by one run in the championship game.
WTF? So a team with 3 losses to their opponent, all big losses, wins one game by one run and is the champ?
Why not do a double header? Some leagues used to do that. If the team coming out of the loser's bracket wins the first game against the winner's bracket champ, then they played a second game to determine the championship.
The way LL baseball does it doesn't make sense...and it is not truly a double elimination tournament. Never liked that.

I hear ya. But look at it this way. To fight through the loser's bracket, you are at risk because you are playing additional "elimination" games. And because baseball is what it is, and LL has it's pitch count limits, you better have a deep rotation if you want to survive AND knock off the team coming out of the winner's bracket. The winner's bracket team usually has the advantage of setting their pitching up so that they have an advantage over the loser's bracket team (see South Korea vs. Japan yesterday). Nevada's pitcher was hurt. He was supposed to start but couldn't. Then, in desperation, he tried to pitch in the middle of the game and got pulled after a couple of batters because he didn't have good stuff. Hell, Illinois was without it's top two pitchers for today's game because they had to fight and scrap to get there with their two aces.
Congraturations to grorious victors from disputed territory. We wirr some day eat rabrador retriever together again at same tabre once America is defeated and is no ronger occupier. Then nobody wirr be ronery any more.

Kimmy...another congrats to your recent World Cup winners!

I can answer that question in two letters: TV. They want to know when the championship game is, period.

No doubt. That is the problem with the best 2 out of 3 format for the CWS title. That game #2 is a problem.

Yes he probably was I thought that they were going to make a comeback but if that outfielder from South Korea had not made that catch they could have won.The pitcher from South Korea was starting to pitch wildly!!!!
The gooks were beating the crap out of Jackie Robinson. Wasn't as close as the score indicated.
Nevada probably had a better shot...too bad LL rules let a team lose with only one loss in a double elimination tournament.
Typical Cluck you enjoy playing the role of the ugly American?!?!The pitching for South Korea especially the guy who was 5-10 186 shut down the bats of the JRW squad. They started to wear him down but ran out of time.

You truly are a moron, aren't you?
Perhaps you didn't notice the the Koreans were wearing down Chicago's pitching. In fact, if the game kept going, the Mercy Rule would have been implemented. 1 run the 4th, 1 run in the 5th, and 4 runs in the 6th...Chicago had no chance.
Vegas would have fared better and had a chance to win.

Someone explained it to me that it's double elimination pool play and the championship is winner take all. The coaches and teams know that going in. Still a little goofy but it would be touch to play the next day after a double header. The winning team wouldn't have any pitchers left.
To make US vs. the World game a true championship maybe the should schedule the game with enough of a gap for pitch counts to no longer matter.

This is especially a major problem in the regional tournaments!! They should be double-elimination even during the pool play. In the West, Northern California lost 3 games, but saved their star pitcher to beat Hawaii and played for a chance to go to the world series. They should have been eliminated after their second loss, imo. They can still play games to allow every one so many games, but it doesn't make sense to allow a 1-3 team the chance to beat a 4-0 team once and advance past them. I liken that to this scenario in the MLB. Even though the Reds beat the Cardinals in games 1-3 of a series. Game 4 is set as a winner take all final. It wouldn't make any sense at all and would be extremely unfair to the Reds.
The consolation championship had one team's managers showing some of the most class of the tournament. Even though they still had one of their aces available to pitch, Nevada put some of the guys who hadn't pitched in the tournament to take the mound, and their all-star hitters only had one at-bat, while the guys who hadn't played as much during the tournament had multiple. Of course Japan sent their ace to the mound who pitched a shutout, but Nevada's playing of all the subs ahead of the star players was very classy.
Maybe the best way to do it is to split the teams into two groups of four. Have pool play in each group (three games each). Best record in each group advance to the championship. Maybe you have the top two teams in each group play for the right to advance to the championship. At least that would remove the double elimination thing that everyone gets stuck on.

Go Ghana!
Damn, not one single post...you simply can't make yourself look smart. More than that, you always make yourself look stupid. That's almost impossible.
It must be magic.
It was a personal choice to root for Ghana vs USA but not once did I make a race based comment about the American players as you did against the South Koreans!!!!

What makes you think the kids from Veags would have fared any better vs South Korea's pitching staff it was that one kid for SK who was listed at 5-10 186 that held the kids from Chicago in check with his 70 plus fastball!!!!! It was those two titanic home run blast that did Chi-town in good thing the bases were not loaded then the mercy rule would have been implemented!!!!

dal...first of all I would like to congratulate you on writing a complete sentence.
Second, you always make race based comments...it is your focus.
Third...what personal choice could make you root against your country?

dal, first I want to let you know that I am disappointed that you devolved in regards to your writing skills.
Second, You didn't watch the rest of the games, did you?
Third, plenty of kids had 70mph fastballs in this tournament...see my second point.
I just got a nice reminder of why I hate all DC sports. I'm listening to the Nats @ Phils game on 106.7 The Fan, the Nats' flagship station. The Phillies ceremony honoring the Taney PA little league team ran long and they were quite seriously whining, bitching, and complaining like the soulless POSs that DC fans are. The play by play man ends the bitching with, "and the game finally gets underway at 7:40 pm". Yeah, fuck the kids that are the future fans, fuckstick. Let's feel sorry for these millionaire pussy prima donna pro players that, God forbid, have to wait an extra five minutes to play. Grrrr.
