Couple week old article from my local paper on Nova previewing their season. I'd posted it on the JMU board but forgotten to post it her. Middle of article:

"Stumbles in 2013 teaching Villanova to deal with expectations

....That’s the bad news. The good news is that the Wildcats have 15 starters back, eight on defense. They are led by Robertson, who was selected as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year in the CAA. Center Ross Hall and tackle Vince Kowalski also earned preseason first-team all-league selections.

One player who won’t be back is running back/receiver Jamal Abdur-Rahman. He was dismissed for “conduct detrimental to the team,” Talley said. Abdur-Rahman will finish his senior year at Villanova and then look to transfer, Talley said.

The loss of Abdur-Rahman is big. He’s a game-breaker. He scored two touchdowns in Villanova’s 27-24 loss to Boston College. However, a knee injury kept him out of five games last year.

Still, Talley believes his offense can average 30 points a game as it did last year. Robertson amassed more than 3,300 yards of total offense, and Kevin Monangai and Austin Medley provide a solid 1-2 punch in the backfield.

Livers leads a talented group of receivers, who should enhance the passing game. The big question is up front. Hall and Kowalski are the only returning starters on the offensive line.

Defensively, there are no returning starters on the line. However, Tanoh Kpassagnon, a 6-7, 265-pound sophomore end from Wissahickon, is a player to watch. The linebackers and secondary, though, return intact....."

You might want to rethink that (posted 1st 1/3rd of 8/4 article):

"William and Mary opens preseason camp with QB search, minus Ortiz

WILLIAMSBURG — WILLIAMSBURG — William and Mary’s quarterback situation is no more settled, but there’s one fewer variable in the equation.

The Tribe announced Monday that senior Raphael Ortiz, the only quarterback with appreciable experience, is unavailable for the 2014 season after the team’s medical staff disqualified him from competition.

Ortiz missed the entire 2013 season attempting to recover from shoulder injuries and offseason surgery following the 2012 season, when he played in seven games and started five. He did limited work last spring and attempted to rehab all summer before W&M’s medical staff shut him down.

W&M began preseason camp Monday with three healthy quarterbacks: Christian Brumbaugh, Steve Cluley and Frank Brown. Redshirt freshman Jhalil Mosley continues to recover from the effects of an ankle injury and is not available for the start of camp.

“The whole quarterback situation is not ideal, as an understatement,” head coach Jimmye Laycock said. “Our situation is two-fold: We’ve got to identify a guy, or the top two guys, and then we’ve got to get them ready to play.”........"

BDK, we hopeful 2013 UD fans watched our team get completely shut down by WM last year and I think the shell shock lingers. I mean we had NEGATIVE 19 yards rushing in that game and no offensive TDs.

Rhody, as if things weren't bad enough.. :ohno:

"Roster Preview: Three-Way Competition at Quarterback in Store for Camp

KINGSTON, R.I. - One of the key questions still to be answered for the 2014 Rams is who will be the team's main signal caller. When camp opens Aug. 10, head coach Jim Fleming will have a true competition at quarterback, with redshirt freshmen Mack Lowrie (Foxboro, Mass.) and Luke Casey (Columbia, Md.) vying with redshirt junior Kolt Peavey (Bolivar, Mo.) for the job.

All three spent time working with the first-team offense during spring ball, and only Peavey (pictured right) has seen playing time at the collegiate level. In his first year with the Rams, the 6-0, 190-pound lefty appeared in 10 games with one start. The team's primary holder in the kicking game, Peavey did pass for 248 yards and one touchdown last season. During the annual spring game, Peavey was 6-for-11 passing for 83 yards.

Casey (above middle) has a year in the program after redshirting last fall. The 6-4, 200-pound Casey had a strong showing in the spring game, leading three scoring drives while completing 9-of-13 passing attempts for 81 yards and a touchdown. He also ran eight times for 104 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown run.

Lowrie (above left) came to Rhode Island as a mid-year transfer from Boston College after sitting out a redshirt season in the fall. Recruited by the current coaching staff before he decided to go to BC, Lowrie is the biggest of the Rhode Island quarterbacks at 6-4 and 215 pounds. The Foxboro, Mass. native passed for more than 5,000 and 75 touchdowns during his all-state career for Roxbury Latin........"

8/4 article:
The arrests included Lucas Casey, a 19-year-old college quarterback at the University of Rhode Island and an Atholton High School graduate, who faces five criminal counts, including second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and failure to obey a law enforcement officer, state court records show. Rhode Island suspended him from the football program indefinitely pending the outcome of the charges, university athletic director Thorr Bjorn said.

Long time Tribe fan here. Can't see anyway we finish 2nd unless a QB steps out of the woods to lead us. We are only a QB short of being a possible title contender. As we found out last year to close the season, when your offense can't score at all, the margin for error against good teams is too thin. McBride, Ballard, and the running game are all good enough, as is the O-Line. I don't think any of the teams can win without throwing it this year. Based on that, NH and Villanova should be the favorites preseason. Look at the schedules to see who has the easiest final 4 games and pick that team to win the title.

Nothing much to argue with there. UD probably too high. Richmond possibly too low. JMU as well.

No one ever posted the CAA 12 teams in 12 days videos. Well, they are 1-3 weeks old, 7-9 minutes long, but here goes:

I don't believe any of the teams in the CAA will win their FBS game. I would like to predict Nova going 11 - 0 in FCS competition, but due to injuries, weather, growing pains, I'm going to concede the two road games in Va., and cross my fingers on the road game in Orono. The schedule seems to favor Towson. My CAA bias has the CAA winning all of their non-confernce non FBS games, but there are about 10 non confernce games that could go against the CAA teams, especially the bottom 4 in my ranking.

Towson 7 - 1 CAA,, 10 - 2 Overall, losing to Nova & WV..
Nova 6 - 2 CAA, 9 - 3 Overall, losses to Syracuse, W&M & UR.
Richmond 6 - 2 CAA, 9 - 3 Overall, losses to Va., W&M, & Maine on the road.
Maine 6 - 2 CAA, 8 - 3 Overall, losses to BC, Towson, & Nova
UNH 6 - 2. 8 - 3 Overall, all road losses to Toledo, Richmond, & Maine
JMU 5 - 3 CAA, 8 - 4 Overall, losses to MD, Nova, TU, & UR.
W&M 5 - 3 CAA, 8 - 4 Overall, All road losses to Va. Tech, UNH, JMU, & TU
Delaware 3 - 5 CAA, 6 - 6 Overall
Albany 1 - 7 CAA, 5 - 7 Overall
Stony Brook 1 - 7 CAA, 4 - 8 Overall
Elon 1 - 7 CAA, 4 - 8 Overall, 1st CAA Win, 10/18 vs Stony Brook
URI 1 - 7 CAA, 4 - 8 Overall

Your thoughts?
Your nuts if you think TU will finish 7-1.
Maine is never good 2 seasons in a row.

JMU will probably lose around 4 games, but not what you have.
-Will be a HUGE difference from playing at home a UNCC team in its 1st season of football, with 2 scholly classes and about 55 on scholly, to playing on the road a UNCC team in its 2nd season of football, 3 scholly classes and about 75 on scholly.
-JMU finishes somewhere along the lines of 8-4/6-2 or 7-5/5-3. Loses:
@ MD
@ VU,
maybe @ UNCC
@ either UR or SBU (play those 2 road games back to back)
maybe a home game (among UD, W&M, TU).

VU and UNH will be in the playoffs + 2-3 of the following 5: UR, W&M, JMU, UD, TU

I overshot on TU & Maine, but was within a game of pretty much everyone else's overall record. UA did better than expected, and URI & Elon won fewer games, and finished where expected. Feel free to post your preseason prediction, but if a tree falls in the woods where no one can hear it, does it actually make any sound?
