Re: NFL!!!!!
Meh. I realize it's the most popular sport in the world but, me personally, I just don't understand why people get into it so much. It's just a bunch of mercenaries.
Like around here there's all this hub bub about the New Orleans Saints. Why the hell do people around here care about the Saints? It's just a bunch of guys who are playing for New Orleans because they're making mega millions of doing so. If they get a better offer tomorrow and are able to take it they'll take it. They are not really connected to the area.
The strongest "connection" involves high school football in community situations. Like you have a community and the young guys from that community are on the field. Next is something like at McNeese. More than 90 percent of the players are from a 200 mile radius of the school. They represent the region. Next is something like an LSU. Around 60 percent of the players will typically be from Louisiana and a lot of the ones that aren't are from the neighboring state of Texas. There's still a connection.
But the NFL? There's no connection at all. It's just guys from wherever hired to play for a particular organization. I remember noticing a few years ago that there were more guys from Louisiana on the New England Patriots' roster than there were on the New Orleans Saints' roster. It's not really "Louisiana" team at all and I just don't get why people from Louisiana give a crap about how the Saints do.

Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Re: NFL!!!!!
No it's just alcohol. But even if I were totally sober I wouldn't understand why people get so vested in NFL teams or care as much as they do about NFL football. I don't even remember the last time I watched a NFL game from start of finish. I honestly don't care that much about it and I don't understand why anybody else does. Especially this stuff of getting all vested in how the "local" team does like it is around here with the Saints. The Saints players have nothing to do with New Orleans except that's where the organization they work for is headquartered. Are you high on the chronic or did you choose to go with pills tonight?

It's the sport played at its highest level. Does it not make sense that people identify regionally?JohnStOnge wrote:No it's just alcohol. And I know it's a ton of PR related bullshit but most teams are very community oriented. It's also surprising how many pro athletes retire in Seattle and are still around the community.

Anyway, while I agree that the NFL is at the top of the charts skill-wise, I still prefer college FB!

JSO, the NFL here from DC to Maine is what the SEC/ACC are to the south. It matters to us.
