NDSU are 25 point favorites. Wow.
25 is a lot to cover, especially when you are know for grinding out the clock and not running up the score, and if they are that far ahead it will be 3rd stringer time. Wait they haven't given up a point in the 4th quarter this year and average less that a point per every quarter the last 23 games (read they have given up 16 in that time)
I wonder if the Griz are confident enough to go put some cash down on the Griz to cover? I asked my brother-in-law today, a huge Griz fan, and he said he needs 31.
How can there be this much difference between a #1 and #3/#4 team? Has the FCS fallen that much? Are the Bison that Good? You can't under rate the #1 team in the polls, so are the Griz highly over-rated? Think about it. #2 Eastern are 9 point favorties over a #18(?) Bobcat team?
Somebody has some explaining to do.
What if the professionals are right and there is a 25 point difference between 1 and 4. What next?

They couldn't cover that against Weber State, I doubt they do that with the Griz.

If the final score is actually a 25-point difference, nobody will beat NDSU this year.Robsnotes4u wrote:NDSU are 25 point favorites. Wow.

Bison beat Iowa State by 20. Iowa State beat Iowa and only lost to #20 Kansas State by 4. Montana lost to a not good Wyoming team by 5. It doesn't take much to realize the 25 points make a lot of sense.

Time for NDSU to man up and go FBS. Big fish in little pond isnt a good look for very long.

Not a Bison guy, actually BSC fan, but live in Fargo. I managed at a dealership here and gave a car to the old AD at NDSU and we had many conversations during the transition to FCS. Transitions aren't any easy task. They would need to do something stadium wise just for starters.bucs90 wrote:Wow.

Motor City Bowl doesn't look like a great goal to start a season with. NDSU may be good now, but eventually there will be bad seasons, I've seen them bad years. It's easier getting to the top than staying on top. Hopefully the new staff and new AD will keep FCS football as a focus.bucs90 wrote:Wow.

Mostly waiting to see what the Power 5 are going to do. If the MVFC were to move up, then it would make sense. Playing in the MAC or Slumbelt do not make sense.

I think most Griz fans would agree that Montana is over-rated at this point. I have them at 10 in my poll.
And 25 points is a big number. I'd take it all day long. FCS odds makers might not be that great at predictions. I got 16 for EWU @ Washington and the # was as high as 23.

I agree, Montana is very over-rated.. Our defense seems to be holding up a little better than last year but its our offense that is having some inconsistent drives and leaving points out on the field. I would have them anywhere from 10-15 spot as of right now heading into this weekend.

Sorry - Bison aren't going anywhere soon. They have beeeggggg issue staying Title IX compliant. There is no appropriate league that wants NDSU for any sport besides football. The only possible conference that makes sense is MAC, and Fargo is a LONG WAYS from NIU, which is the farther NW school in the MAC.bucs90 wrote:Wow.

Other than the frustration on the football field, I LOVE the NDSU/SDSU rivalry. These two peas need to stay together as they are a convenient "other sports (BB) road swing", And if these two weren't in the same conference, you'd be hearing much more about SDSU football.

Look at it this way.
NDSU beats Iowa State on the road by 20 (34-14). For comparison sake let's say the Cyclones and the Cowboys are equals, a pick em. Then let's say it was a fluke win and the Cowboys and Griz are equals.
The Bison get 3 points for home field advantage, therefore, using the false scenario above the Bison would be favored by 23 over the Griz.
Now since Iowa State is better than Wyoming, which I don't think anyone can argue, and the Griz lost to Wyoming, is that difference at least 2 points?
There is definitely more to it than that, but it is realistic when you look at it. It is hard to beat someone by 25, unless you are a coach that hates the team, wants to make a statement, or just likes to run up the score. The Bison do not, at least in the Bohl years, run up the score. Once they have a comfortable lead in the second half, they choose to control the clock with their offense. They mentally and physically beat you, the score may not show it, but it happens.
It will be interesting if the Bison, put the MVFC on their shoulders in this game, keeping the foot on the pedal, as the MVFC thinks they should have had more teams in the playoffs last year.

This was just the logical view, and very realistic.
If it is a sure thing the Griz faithful should be running to 5Dimes and betting. The funny thing is I hear "I will bet the house on that spread". Then lets see some people do it. Scan your ticket and show us. There is a reason the spread is what it is. These guys are professionals, they are in it to make money, and they make lots of money. Think about it they had to put a number out there (Bribe) so not everyone bet on the Bison. It is now down to 23.
The Reality the number is probably right. Unfortunately when it does happen, there will be excuses, and fortunately nobody will have lost their house, because they knew in their hearts it wasn't a sure thing.
In the long run it doesn't matter what the spread is, just who won the game.

Re: And then Reality sets in...
The oddsmakers don't base the spread on what they think the score will end up. They base the spread on a number that will generate the most action. And if the # is moving down, that means most of the money is being bet on the Griz to cover. Again, if I had LEGAL access to a way to bet in Vegas, I'd put a grand down right now on the Griz to cover. I will be in Vegas NEXT weekend, and could collect at that time, because I'm 100% positive the Griz will cover that spread. That's an FBS/FCS game spread. I won't bet 5 dimes, because I don't want to get fired and go to jail for doing something that's illegal.Robsnotes4u wrote:If it is a sure thing the Griz faithful should be running to 5Dimes and betting. Two best I have seen in the Dome were UNI/Bison last year. Great game. And Georgia Southern/Bison playoff game. Wofford/Bison wasn't bad either.clenz wrote:I'll be there for the game.

Injuries sucked in the UNI game, but the other two were smash mouth.

What happens in this scenario. Griz loss by the 25 points the 5dimes opened at, or lets even go with the current 23. So they lose by 23.
Are the Griz happy they dont have to play Weber State, especially after the "you only beat Weber by 17"?
That one will be a fun conversation to read. You know it is coming.
