Manny Ramirez will be suspended 50 games for positive drug test
Dodgers left fielder Manny Ramirez prepares to head back into the field during a game against the San Diego Padres on Friday.
The suspension makes Ramirez the biggest star penalized under baseball's testing program that started in 2003.

I never would have pegged Manny for a juicer. I would have thought his swing and natural talent should have been able to carry him through.

That's the PROBLEM, DF. It WOULD have. Just like Bonds. But in their twisted minds, it just is never enough. I don't get it but I guess I never will.

Dodgers should have to forfeit all the games they won this year, and the home-win record erased

Yeah, but Bonds was a little more physically noticeable. The change from his rookie season to the homerun years was amazingly noticeable.AZGrizFan wrote:danefan wrote:I never would have pegged Manny for a juicer. Manny looks the same and swings the same since his rookie year.

Him and Big Papi, blazing definitely, but this comes as a bit of surprise. No very noticeable change like Bonds, fairly consistent numbers, and he never came up in any steroids talk I've heard of. That'd mean he started doing it recently, after the Mitchell report, or he's just that much better at than everyone else.

Re: Manny being Manny? (while sticking needles in his a$$?)
quotes from manny, could he be telling the truth? I know it is hard to trust players these days, but like everyone said there has never been a change in manny.
"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," Ramirez said. "Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now.
"I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons. I want to apologize to [Dodgers owner Frank] McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, [manager Joe] Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I'm sorry about this whole situation."

He's at LEAST guilty of being an idiot. How can you NOT know what is a banned substance?dgreco wrote:quotes from manny, could he be telling the truth? I know it is hard to trust players these days, but like everyone said there has never been a change in manny.

Re: Manny being Manny? (while sticking needles in his a$$?)
So you'd say the same thing about J.C. Romero who tested positive for a banned substance that the MLB refused to believe was in an OTC supplement? After which, a study proved that the supplements contained substances that would cause a player to test positive. If Manny is telling the truth about the doctor is it Manny's fault for being an idiot or the Doctors for being a dumb fuck?AZGrizFan wrote:

Manny's numbers slipped in 2007... then rebounded in 2008... maybe he started feeling the slip and didn't want that to happen...

I'm not convinced Ramirez had HOF cred to begin with....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: Manny being Manny? (while sticking needles in his a$$?)
Interestingly enough lets look at the career HR leaders list:
Rank Player (age) Home Runs Bats
1. Barry Bonds 762 L - a juicer
2. Hank Aaron+ 755 R
3. Babe Ruth+ 714 L
4. Willie Mays+ 660 R
5. Ken Griffey (39) 613 L
6. Sammy Sosa 609 R - dead lock for a juicer?
7. Frank Robinson+ 586 R
8. Mark McGwire 583 R - a juicer
9. Harmon Killebrew+ 573 R
10. Rafael Palmeiro 569 L - admitted juicer
11. Reggie Jackson+ 563 L
12. Alex Rodriguez (33) 553 R - admitted juicer
13. Mike Schmidt+ 548 R
14. Jim Thome (38) 545 L
15. Mickey Mantle+ 536 B
16. Jimmie Foxx+ 534 R
17. Manny Ramirez (37) 533 R - suspended for PE substance
Bolded are the ones not in the HoF. Looks like Griffey and Thome are the only ones who were clean. Could be the reason Griffey had so many long injuries. Maybe others were recovering faster from similar injuries?

Re: Manny being Manny? (while sticking needles in his a$$?)
Could Manny been having OTHER types of performance problems?
A source close to Manny Ramirez(notes) said Thursday that the illegal substance for which the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger tested positive was not “an agent customarily used for performance enhancing.”
At least not on the baseball diamond. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the substance is supposed to boost sex drive. It is not Viagra, but a substance that treats the cause rather providing a temporary boost in sexual performance, the source said.

Under MLB rules, the only way you get 50 games on your first positive test is for a positive steroid test.dbackjon wrote:Could Manny been having OTHER types of performance problems?

They said it was an HGC or something which is a women's hormone drug....

Re: Manny being Manny? (while sticking needles in his a$$?)
And which is used in conjunction with steroids in order to restart the body's natural testosterone production after a steroid cycle .... Thus, it is a steroid offense and a 50-game suspension applies for a first time positive test.dgreco wrote:They said it was an HGC or something which is a women's hormone drug....
