I agree, however, Prince gave a concert and gave all of the MONEY to non profits in Chicago. However, this does not get any news coverage. In my City (Atlanta), my fraternity has started a mentoring program from boys 4-13. Studies show that this should start before 13 when most boys get into real trouble.

Re: War In Ferguson
I think the prosecutor screwed up by saying they would immediately release all info as opposed to saying something such as "shortly after the press conference". People expect all info to go public immediately and this is not done for Grand Juries. The only reason this grand jury info was released (and only reason it went in front of the Grand Jury) was to try to cut down on potential violence, which it turns out was not going to happen either way.CAA Flagship wrote:Yeah, I'm not sure. Some legal "analyst" on one of the stations discussed this. They were wondering why it was taking so long to release the info. In that way, a grand jury is very different than a regular jury
It is unfortunate that he died but some people refuse to look at the facts that were presented to the Grand Jury who made the hard decision not to return an indictment. It would have been easier for them to return an indictment so the officer could have gone to trial and they could have passed the buck to the jury trial. They did their job and analyzed all the information in front of them which shows that there was no probably cause to indict the officer.
Agree with your leak comments though and reason for timing of the announcement. I have no issue with them waiting until the evening for the reason that you stated.

I know we won't get the numbers but I would actually like to know how much of the violence, looting, burning, etc. was led by locals and how much by the people who decided they were going to go to Ferguson to make a statement. I have no doubt that Fergusonites were involved at least to an extent in some of it but I would be more hard pressed to trust those who drove or flew to Ferguson recently to make a point.Ibanez wrote:They are fighting racism and injustice and something like that. They've been leaking information since two days after the event. Wilson sent his girlfriend to the radio to leak his side of the story, the cops leaked the pics from the alleged robbery, they leaked the fractured eye socket story...... nobody within 100 miles of St. Louis, black or white, ever thought there would be an indictment. Cops ain't ham sandwiches ya know...CAA Flagship wrote:Yeah, I'm not sure. Some legal "analyst" on one of the stations discussed this. In all fairness, there were many cases of self policing from the legal protestors. I give credit to them for that.Chizzang wrote:CitadelGrad wrote:14 businesses and 2 police cars burned -- so far.*whew

However, it is the legal protestors' failure to recognize the potential for wide scale vandalism that has caused this. Their complaining about the militaristic response in August caused the police and NG to not prevent the damage. Maybe it saved lives (by not being confrontational), but Ferguson is a mess and the residents will have to deal with it. It may not have been THEIR actions that caused the damage, but THEIR simpleton response to the case provided the platform for the lawless actions.

Re: War In Ferguson
Do you really have a problem with Wilson defending himself in the media though (whether through himself or his now wife)? You had others going out doing interviews and telling what they claimed they saw (some of which were disproven, some of which was not). You only had to believe that Wilson would at least try to defend himself to a degree as well.houndawg wrote:They've been leaking information since two days after the event. From a lawyer's standpoint, there is only so much you want your potential defendant client to say in the public but this may have been necessary just from his own livelihood standpoint.

The two key points of evidence, as I see it, are:houndawg wrote:Are you saying that the cops should have released the pics from the store sooner and the chief of police shouldn't have said the events were not related, and that the cops should have released the information about the fractured eye socket sooner for the public's edification?CAA Flagship wrote: Anyone's viewpoint of what happened is not a leak. 1. That Brown was the aggressor at the car. It was reported that Wilson grabbed him by the neck and was trying to pull him in. I said a long time ago that it is unlikely that anyone can hold a 300 lb person by the neck with one hand when that person has the leverage to push off the vehicle. Also, the fact that Wilson's face was injured on the RIGHT side, rather than the left, is somewhat telling also. It is harder to injure someone on the opposite side of the face if you were trying to get away.
2. The fact that Brown backtracked 25 feet. It was stated that he dropped 153 ft from the car, and that blood was found in the street 25 feet beyond that.
These two explanations were not widely expressed by the media in the hours and days after the incident.
I haven't had a chance to determine where Wilson was in relation to Brown or the car when he fired the gun. I am assuming he was somewhere in between the two. Anybody find info from the transcripts on this?
