Do you think the scene would be any different if they decided to charge the officer? Honestly. They were going to loot, burn, and cause a scene regardless.
Same priciple as winning the World Series or Stanley Cup I guess. I always wondered why it was the winners that tore up their city after those things instead of the losers

Well, since eye-witness testimony is behind virtually every wrongful conviction, I guess it isn't much surprise that some eye-witness testimony isn't accurate. But you agree with the eye witness testimony that supports the cop, don't you? :?

sideshows - like short-circuiting the grand jury process? Help us out with some FAQ, cid, you're the resident federale who has been everywhere and done everything. I thought DAs were the guys that prosecuted? No?

Hell, the cop would have been found not guilty by a jury trial. Funny that the only four times this DA hasn't had a GJ return an indictment were the four cases of cops shooting citizens. Of course I'd probably do the same thing if my father had been shot by a black man too, but, still, at the same time- doesn't really do much for appearances.. :ohno:

The important point is that in order to charge someone you have to have some reasonable prospect of convicting them. At least that's how I understand it.

If you've got eye witness testimony that the guy charged to police officer it's going to be hard to convict them. The paradigm is innocent until proven guilty and the standard is beyond a reasonable doubt. My belief is that the prosecutor knew already that there was no way this guy was going to be convicted but he couldn't just say so because of the irrational political environment. So he had to go through the grand jury thing.

Meanwhile it's been clear from the start that a very large number of people in and associated with the "Black Community" have not been interested in finding the truth with respect to this situation to begin with. It wouldn't matter if there was a video showing the guy hitting the police officer and trying to take his gun then later moving away before charging. It could be documented completely and those people would be saying something like the video was altered or that it was CGI or something. They made up their minds that it was this thing where he was innocently standing there with his hands up and the cop just shot him for the heck of it.

It's like when they had this "gentle giant" narrative then a video came out showing that he was a not that but was instead a thug bully they got mad that the truth about that was displayed instead of stepping back and saying, "You know what, he was NOT somebody who would never hurt a flea, etc" The truth doesn't matter and if something that shows the truth comes out and it doesn't go along with their Black Victim narrative they get pissed off that the truth came out.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

What is most interesting is that Sharpton, the family's attorney, the NAACP, the black congressional caucus, etc REFUSE TO ADMIT that the kid was shown ON VIDEO committing a crime before his ass got shot. The kid was a criminal.

well, if being criminal gets you shot then we'd all be dead

this guy got shot because he precipitated a physical confrontation with a police officer- his prior history is immaterial

lets keep our eye on the ball and leave the extraneous speculation and wild tangents to the Sharptons and the Jacksons

The process is controlled by the DA according to the lawyers all over the country commenting on the unusual way this particular GJ was handled. If the DA wants an indictment he gets one. Naturally, DA don't want to prosecute cops for shooting blacks, especially the DAs, like this one, whose fathers were cops shot by a black man. Its a great system if you're a trigger-happy cop; your story will never be cross examined. Play this right and every world series could become an opportunity to plink a few negros. :thumb:
