It's hard to read this thing as anything other than a political shot across the bow, and as a way for Feinstein to separate herself for knowing about a lot of this, and other things (NSA spying) and her not doing anything about it at the time. It's basically her trying to adjust her legacy while she still has a chance to rewrite it.

I think most reasonable people agree that we did torture people and that, at times, we crossed the line and did bad things. The thing is, we knew about all of this 5 years ago at least, so what's new in this report that we didn't already know?

And the conclusion that Feinstein offers that we didn't get any information from doing this that we couldn't have gotten by other means has been contradicted many times by people on both sides of the aisle. Heck, Leon Pannetta says in his autobiography that we did get information from doing this that we couldn't have gotten otherwise. It doesn't make what we did right in terms of right or wrong, it just adds more fuel to the fire as to what we would do next time we find ourselves, as a nation, having to make the hard decisions as to what we do in times of war. Not easy questions to answer.

Reading your posts are often times torture.

I am sure I'd be very upset at being water boarded and consider it very unpleasant. But if before all this stuff came up you'd have told me that I'm going to be tortured the types of things that would come to mind would be things like at that link I posted. Or maybe I might think of somebody saying something like if I don't tell them what they want they're going to chop the tip of one of my fingers off. And if I still don't tell them then they're going to chop another piece. Or something like they're going to shock my balls with an electrical chord.

So if you then told me that by "torture" what you're talking about is what's been described as the "water boarding" that the CIA did or something like sleep deprivation I would be relieved. With the water boarding they did it in such a way as to ensure that no fluid actually got into the lungs. They did it in such a way to ensure that there would be no actual physical harm.

I'm sorry, but my view would not change if I were water boarded as described. However upset I was when it was going on I'd be damned happy when it was over that the "torture" wasn't the kind of thing I've always thought of when I think of people being tortured in order to get them to provide information.

Or stuff like putting their body in a device that will slowly drive spikes through their tissue. Stuff like applying hot irons to their genitals.

I watched an interview with the CIA guy who was in charge of the waterboarding and interogations. He was very relucant to do it and wanted to know exactly specifics of what was legal and mentioned practicing before hand to ensure the safety of all involved. And that emergency medical staff were there and ready should something go wrong.
This guy came across, to me at least, as a regular guy, who wasn't a sick sadistic MF'er.

He said the 9-11 fellow, knew how to allow water to run into the nose and out his mouth. And held up his hand counting the seconds with his fingers.

Taliban terrorists that disguised themselves as soldiers and murdered over 130 people, mostly children, at a Pakistan school allegedly burned a teacher alive and made the students watch.

According to a NBC News report, which cited an unnamed military official, the terrorists stormed the Army Public school in Peshawar, in north-west Pakistan, and committed the horrific act as well as detonating a suicide bomb which killed a number of students.

"They burnt a teacher in front of the students in a classroom," said the unnamed military source to the US TV network.

"They literally set the teacher on fire with gasoline and made the kids watch."

I didn't want to shove tubes and food up their ass to develop ties between 9/11 and Iraq and I didn't want to jeopardize the safety of our troops in the wrong country...but I felt I owed it to them...
