Philadelphia: City of Losers Again

Post by Ivytalk »

Eagles, thought by some to be a potential Super Bowl team, will miss the playoffs unless they get some help.

The Sixers are so bad they should be disbanded.

The Flyers' playoff chances are fading, and they score less often than Bob Dole before Viagra.

The Phillies are a joke with too many bad contracts.

Penn FB sucks. But that's a good thing.

The Eagles will be fine in the near future. Just gotta continue to get better in the draft.

They weren't going to beat Green Bay or Seattle in the playoffs this year anyway.

Ugly ending to the Eagles season no doubt. They know what they need - will be an interesting couple of months to see if the Eagles will trade up in the draft....

Can't let corners get away in the draft again. They were one pick away from getting Ha-Ha in the past draft, only to see the Packers get him. Sometimes you're going to need to move up, even a few spots, to make sure you don't miss out on guys you really need.

Eagles: only 10-win NFL team not to make the 2014 playoffs. :ohno:

Weren't good enough anyway. Could've made the playoffs just to be dismissed in a week or two when they face the Pack or the Hawks. Gotta get some corners and take another shot at it next year. Of course, getting the starting QB back would help as well - can't win in this league with a backup at QB.

Eagles went 5-4 with Sanchez at the helm. Cardinals went 3-4 after Palmer went down. Eagles were 5-2 before then and the Cards were 8-1 before then. I'd say that would qualify as pretty significant drops in winning percentage from the starter to the backup(s), no?

So yes, Tom Brady, future Hall of Famer and in the discussion for best QB of all time stands as the exception. Do you think Drew Stanton and Mark Sanchez are in that same strata?

The Cardinals are a shell of their former selves without Carson Palmer in the huddle.

This. The Cards with Carson Palmer - legit Super Bowl contenders and likely with home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Cards without Carson Palmer - really hoping to squeeze out a win in Carolina this week before getting obliterated in Seattle the following week. You don't win with backup QB's in the NFL.

* It's less likely and you don't win as much.

Frank Reich, Jeff Hostetler, Rex Grossman….

Frank Reich, Jeff Hostetler, Rex Grossman….
First of all, Reich and Hostetler are basically ancient when it comes to this discussion. It's been 15 years at least since those guys took a snap, and Reich's biggest accomplishments came almost 20 years ago. You might as well have brought up Earl Morrall and Johnny Unitas. Anything from this millenium other than Brady?

As for Rex Grossman, he came into the league as a starting QB, and was that way through his Super Bowl appearance. Once he became ineffective he found his way to the bench, where he continued to be ineffective. How does he fit into this discussion other than proving the point that you don't win with backup QB's?

I blame the guy telling the supposedly "funny" jokes. Is it the audience's fault when they boo a comic who has bombed on stage? :coffee:

GF and his brother take Philly pro sports far too seriously. Philadelphia sports teams haven't won an NBA title since '83 or a Stanley Cup since '75. They've never won a Super Bowl, and they've won only 2 National League World Series ever. So you learn to take the failures in stride, and the occasional successes as proof that God exists. :twocents:

Nice atheism troll there, eh?

Nova won the chipper in '09. Surely that's enough to placate them?

Judging from the attendance, it wasn't enough to placate Nova, either.

And Wings lax doesn't count.
