I doubt if any I-AA/FCS conference has ever gone through a season with a record anywhere near as good as 30-2 against other I-AA/FCS conferences. It would take a lot of work to verify that. But assuming it's true, that in itself is enough to argue it's the most dominant performance ever by a I-AA/FCS conference. Add in the fact that the two losses were by a teams that were way lower relative to the MVFC than the teams that beat them were relative to their own leagues and the fact that two teams from the league are in the championship game. And the fact that there's one team in the MVFC that BEAT both teams in the national title game during the regular season. The MVFC only losses were last place USD to Montana and 5th ISUB to Chatty. Regardless of playoffs. Has any conference ever finished a season with only 2 OOC losses?

Oh yeah. It's frustrating as hell for a McNeese fan to have to say the school has no national championships. Worse for us than for Sam Houston State fans because Sam Houston State was playing a team both times that was clearly just better than them. McNeese lost both title games to teams it could and should have beaten. First time they'd already beaten the second place team from the Gateway (UNI) during the season and the first place team (WIU) during the playoffs. Youngstown State, the third place team from the Gateway, got the winning TD in the title game like this:clenz wrote:Wait....someone telling a UNI fan they don't know misery?
Da fuq?
They got an interception to set up field position. Only turnover of the game. On third downfrom about the 10 McNeese sacked the YSU QB. But the guy brushed the QB's face mask so YSU got another shot.YSU got enough on the penalty for first and goal from about the five. McNeese held them and on fouth and goal YSU was stopped. But YSU was flagged for illegal motion so the play was dead and they got another shot from the 5. Winning touchdown was scored on the next play after YSU first had the drive extended by a penalty on McNeese THEN had it extended again by a penalty against THEM that McNeese couldn't decline. Add to that it was a very defensive game and earlier in the game McNeese's all conference tight end was so wide open in the end zone that nobody else was in the picture with him, the quaterback threw a nice, soft, perfect pass to him, and he dropped it.
Then there was the next one with Western Kentucky. McNeese beat them 38-13 during the regular season. AND they outgained them on offense during the title game. Had over 400 yards offense and something like 23 or 27 first downs (I forgot which) to Western Kentucky's 10. They had 20+ first downs to the opponent's 10 and LOST 34-14. I mean, come ON! They just ran up and down the field the whole damn game and never scored.
And that's what makes it so frustrating. Not only losing but losing to two very beatable teams. Not even Sam Houston State fans have to deal with THAT.

Eventually the Brooklyn Dodgers won a World Series and the Denver Broncos won a Super Bowl.clenz wrote:Wait....someone telling a UNI fan they don't know misery?

There is a chance for UNI to win someday. Win UNI in the MVFC, they are competing with the best week in and week out. Eventually they will be the top team coming out of the regular season and have a home field advantage for the playoffs.

Re: Most Dominant I-AA/FCS Conference Performance Ever?
The CAA had a dominant run from 2003-2010.
Unlike the MVFC with NDSU being the only winner the CAA had 4 different teams win NC's in that run & every year the league advanced multiple teams deep into the tourney:
2003 - UD wins NC
2004 - JMU wins NC, 2/4 semi's & 4/8 qtr teams were from CAA
2006-07 UMass & UD make finals, 07 - 2/4 semi's & 3/8 qtr's
2008- UR wins NC - 2/4 semi's & 4/8 qtrs
2009 - Nova wins NC, 2/4 semi's & 4/8 qtr's
2010 - UD makes NC game - 2/4 semi's 3/8 qtrs

You're the CAA historian, has the CAA ever had a season where they only lost 2 games OOC, including playoffs?bluehenbillk wrote:The CAA had a dominant run from 2003-2010.

Re: Most Dominant I-AA/FCS Conference Performance Ever?
I don't disagree with that. But I'm talking about the most dominant performance by a conference in a single year. What the MVFC has done this year is going to be awfully tough to beat. To the extent that teams from that conference were eliminated from the playoffs it was mostly by other teams from that conference. Indiana State was the exception.bluehenbillk wrote:The CAA had a dominant run from 2003-2010.
