Current SOS

1. Tennessee
2. Auburn
3. Alabama
4. Florida
5. Texas A&M

6. Iowa State
7. Mississippi State
8. SMU
9. LSU
10. South Carolina

8/10 ain't bad. Over half of the conference in the top 10 in SOS.

Ohio State (the impetus this debate) has the 60th SOS. But, praised for scheduling Va Tech.

Remember when LSU beat Oregon at a neutral location in 2011 and made their high-scoring offense look feckless? Yeah, that was a big reason there was an all-SEC national championship that year. Then of course Alabama played a home-and-home with Penn State around that time and won both games, and they curb-stomped Michigan in Ann Arbor who was the preseason #8 in 2012.

Maybe a lot of teams are hesitant to play major SEC programs because SEC teams can dash national championship hopes of top teams from major conferences? Why give the SEC the chance to remove any doubt they are the best league with non-conference scheduling?
Yes, I'm sure the SEC is just bending over backwards trying to schedule home and homes so that they can play road games outside of the South and they are being turned away.

That's more plausible than the idea that SEC AD's constantly turn down home-and-homes with other major P5s because they are afraid of getting beat. :coffee:

I really don't think either group of AD's are on the phone trying to schedule tough OOC games. There's little reward and there's more money to be made playing an OOC schedule of entirely home games. Schools like Cal are the exception, most schools, and especially the SEC, just don't want to leave the comforts of home and risk losing and risk not making as much money as they can.

Just saw this. We got beat by a shitty team. I was there in person, it was hard to watch. They've come a long way since then. Are they a top 4 team? No, probably not. But 16? No way.

And as long as Michigan keeps sucking massive amounts of ass, I'm ok with it. :kisswink:

Why does it matter if it is outside the state of Florida or not?

They have a yearly rivalry with Florida State - not a weak OOC game. They have a frequent OOC rivalry with Miami.

A lot of those 23 years they were playing Florida State AND Miami... years where those three programs were powerhouses (8 national championships between them in those 23 years).

You are criticizing them for not scheduling Florida State, Miami, and a THIRD quality OOC opponent? :?

Is there any non-independent program that schedules 3 quality OOC home-and-home series in a year?

Yeah, of course travel makes games more difficult. No question.

I'm just curious what you would like Florida to do. Cancel its OOC series with Florida State and Miami to schedule OOC games that are "far away"? Schedule a third difficult OOC game? Also, what distance makes a game far enough away to appease you?

edit to add: Gainesville to Miami is also further than Blacksburg to Columbus. :coffee:

I call shenanigans. You're just making stuff up now and hoping it's right.

Florida and Miami is NOT a "frequent OOC rivalry". Since Florida last left the state of Florida for an OOC game (remember, September 21, 1991, when they lost at Syracuse), Florida has played Miami a grand total of four, yes, that's right, 4 times in the regular season (2002, 2003, 2008, and 2013). So it is incorrect to say "a lot of those 23 years they were playing Florida State AND Miami...".

Florida's OOC opponents, other than Florida St, over the past 10 years includes: Idaho, E. Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Toledo, Georgia Southern, Bowling Green, LA Lafayette, Jacksonville St, Florida Atlantic, UAB, Furman, Miami OH, South Florida, Appy St, Charleston Southern, Troy, FIU, Hawaii, Citadel, Western Kentucky, Southern Miss, Central Florida, Western Carolina, Louisiana Tech. Florida's current OOC philosophy is FSU, an FCS team, a MAC team, and a team from the Sunbelt or CUSA.

Basically, Florida has an OOC home and home schedule with one (1) quality team every year, FSU. And in 23 years, 19 of those years they've had no other quality team. And yes, they haven't left the state for an OOC game in those 23 years. If you really think not having to travel and not having to play in colder weather is really not a factor, then I wonder if you've been watching any football at all over those 23 years.

I was pulling for SEC teams to lose because I get tired of being immersed in the SEC arrogance living here in Baton Rouge. However, you can't make too much over who wins each single bowl game; especially when they are competitive games that could've gone either way like the Auburn/Wisconsin, Alabama/Ohio State, and LSU/Notre Dame games were. I've told SEC fans in the past that they should not make too much over beating, say, the Big 10 in Bowl games that are often competitive but fall the SEC teams' way. I've called in before and said, "Remember what I'm telling you when there are years where things fall the OTHER way." This was one of those years.

It's still the toughest conference. It's still got the highest talent level on average per team as measured by NFL player production. And even in a bad year it still had a winning record in bowl games against other Big 5 conferences (6-4). Plus it still had 12 of its 14 teams in bowls to begin with. It's clearly the strongest, most talent laden, deepest league even though, thankfully, its partisans have to eat a little crow this year.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Just curious here, but can all of you Ohio State hating sons of bitches stop fucking whining now? Thanks.

Furthermore...Florida State shouldn't have even been in the playoff. That was embarassing what they put on the field. TCU vs Oregon would have been an epic game. They have the only reason to bitch so far. Baylor shit the bed big time.

Good to see the future of the Big Ten looking bright.

No. I'm probably going to miss it because of a meeting I have to go to, but the REAL title game is in Frisco, and nobody's going to shift me from that. OH State and Oregon BOTH stink, and their uniforms are worse.

I'm calling Bison for the REAL D-I title (AGAIN)....
