Hall of Fame voting announced at 2 EST

Post by JoltinJoe »

Rooting for Curt Schilling to get in this time. I think he deserves it, at least eventually. I admire his fight against cancer and the way he has tried to help fundraising activities for ALS and cancer and, while things look good for him now going forward, who knows? Vote him in. He deserves its and let him enjoy it while he's still here (hopefully for a long time).

But if Schilling goes in, I don't see how Mussina is left out. Overall, Moose has the better case.

Otherwise, too many big names for anyone else other than the obvious ones.

I had a dream about a week ago and Zimmer was in it. He was working at the service shop where I was getting an oil change.

Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz and Craig Biggio have reached baseball immortality. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in July, after the Baseball Writers Association of America announced Tuesday that the four of them earned the necessary votes for Cooperstown.

Johnson and Martinez, two dominant pitchers on the ballot for the first time, were elected easily, earning 97.3 percent of the vote and 91.1 percent, respectively. Smoltz, another first timer who was dominant as both a starting pitcher and a closer, received 82.9 percent. This was Biggio's third time on the ballot. He missed Cooperstown by two votes in 2014, but earned 82.7 percent of the vote this time, thanks in large part of those 3,000 hits he compiled.
Would love to talk to the couple of voters who left Randy Johnson off their ballot.

Fucking morons. :dunce: :dunce: :dunce:

This isn't a cancer hall of fame. It's a BASEBALL hall of fame. Schilling doesn't belong in it, and neither does Mussina.

Mussina is another Jack Morris with 118 less complete games.

We'll see about that. :coffee:
Johnson, if he wears either an Arizona Diamondbacks or Seattle Mariners cap, would be the first player enshrined as a member of either team. He could go in to the Hall of Fame without a team-specific cap like Greg Maddux did.

You guys will get Griffey next year. he works for the Dbacks. He's an Arizonan. Not likely to see another Dback anytime soon. Randy likes to stand out and be unique. He wanted to be traded to Arizona in 1998, so he could be the first starter ever for the franchise.

4 Cy Youngs in Arizona, only one in Seattle
1 World Series MVP and ring in Arizona - NONE in Seattle
1 Perfect Game in Arizona
He's been pitcher of the month 8 times - 5 in Arizona, 2 in Seattle, 1 in Houston

His best years were in Arizona

Though the game he will be best remembered for will be as a Mariner as a relief pitcher against the Yankees in the playoffs.

For Joe. :kisswink:
For all his purported greatness, he couldn't cut in the major leagues, i.e., when he was promoted to the Yankees for the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

After two seasons, we demoted him back to the Diamondbacks, and he finished his career in the bush leagues.

The Yankees lost to a bush league team in the 2001 World Series? Mariano Rivera blew a save in the ninth inning of a World Series Game 7 to a bunch of bush leaguers? Say it ain't so, Joe!

The purported results of the 2001 World Series have been nullified due Luis Gonzalez's PED use.

Given that the doping Gonzalez "muscled" (cough, cough) Rivera's pitch about 120 feet for the most lame "hit" in baseball history, the scoring decision on the game's final play is now PO-6.

Yankees awarded their fourth straight title.

It is regrettable that this event happened and ushered in the shameful period of "Steroid Champions" from 2001 through 2008.

Any chance Luis Gonzalez got the PED's from Andy Petite or Roger Clemens during the series? And sorry, the Biogenisis scandal that finally pulled down that Yankee cheater A-Rod even throws the Yanks title in '09 into doubt as well. Bunch of cheaters - Jeter might have been the only clean one in the clubhouse. For shame. net to Bill Bellichick's video-taping cheating, Yankee steroid abuse over the past 20 years is probably one of the biggest stains in sports.

OK. I "get" inducting Johnson, Smoltz, and Martinez. They're that good, and then some.

But Biggio?!? He's a VERY nice guy, and a pretty good catcher/second baseman, one of those kinds of guys that anyone would want on their team for chemistry purposes. But HOF material?!? Heck, no. Joe Morgan, he ain't....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

You're right. He ain't Joe Morgan. He's got more hits, more HR's, more RBI's, a higher career batting average, scored more runs, and more doubles. About the ONLY thing Morgan has over Biggio is 2 MVP trophies, and that's really only because he happened to be lucky enough to be on The Big Red Machine in the 70's.

Biggio is MORE deserving than Morgan.
