They should have hired Joe Ferguson....

Agreed he would have had Ryan and a established offense.

Never fear, Atlanta will hire some other teams 3rd or 4th choice and say he was the guy they wanted.Seahawks08 wrote:should have gone to atlanta

The Jets were stupid to allow him to walk within the division....

You're joking, right? Jets fans probably feel like they won the lottery.SuperHornet wrote:The Jets were stupid to allow him to walk within the division....

I've been hearing Dan Quinn (Sea D coordinator) is one of the favorites. I'm not sure how he would be as a HC since Seattle's D is made up of multiple elite players that mostly play cover 3 (aka Carroll's scheme). I would tread lightly if he gets the nod.Baldy wrote:Never fear, Atlanta will hire some other teams 3rd or 4th choice and say he was the guy they wanted.Seahawks08 wrote:should have gone to atlanta

Not sure how they could have stopped him from staying in the division.Mvemjsunpx wrote:You're joking, right? Jets fans probably feel like they won the lottery.SuperHornet wrote:The Jets were stupid to allow him to walk within the division....
I actually don't think he is a bad head coach. He led the Jets to Conference Championship games in 2 of his 5 or 6 season with the Jets. I think after that he had to live with certain players that were given to him on offense where he didn't have a say and a GM or owner who didn't want to spend near the Cap (this year they were $30 million under the Cap before the Harvin trade)
I thought he would have to go to a DC position first for a few years where he great before getting another shot or if he got a head coaching spot it would be a place where the offense was better (see Atlanta) but good for him. He is a guy you will either love or hate. No in between.

And how, pray tell, would they have stopped it?SuperHornet wrote:The Jets were stupid to allow him to walk within the division....

They should have orchestrated a trade across the country...sort of like the Whiners were considering with Harbaugh....Mvemjsunpx wrote:You're joking, right? Jets fans probably feel like they won the lottery.SuperHornet wrote:The Jets were stupid to allow him to walk within the division....

You talk about coaches being traded all the time yet how many times has it happened?SuperHornet wrote:They should have orchestrated a trade across the country...sort of like the Whiners were considering with Harbaugh....Mvemjsunpx wrote:

Did the 49ers or Raiders interview Ryan?

And what NFL team would actually be willing to trade something away to get Rex Ryan.SuperHornet wrote:They should have orchestrated a trade across the country...sort of like the Whiners were considering with Harbaugh....Mvemjsunpx wrote:

Again...trading him to the West Coast sounds great in theory.Mvemjsunpx wrote:And what NFL team would actually be willing to trade something away to get Rex Ryan.SuperHornet wrote:

He would have to agree to the trade. If he didn't and refused to show up to coach then what?
He didn't interview with Oakland or San Fransisco, AFAIK. Why would they trade for him if they didn't want to interview him?

I don't believe I said that it "happens all the time," clenz. The only time I'm even FAIRLY certain about was when the Raiders traded Chuckie to Tampa. But there were stories out here about how SF was trying to trade Harbaugh. Of course, THAT case became moot when he signed with Michigan.
Another option (though one which would likely raise hackles around the league) would be to make him sign a contract containing a non-competition clause. Not sure if that's legal in the NFL, but they're getting more and more common. I've even heard about them in the fast food industry, causing a LOT of complaints (particularly since it was a FRANCHISEE requirement, not a system-wide one).

The Jets had no leverage to make him sign a non-compete in the division and if they tried to force coaches to do that, good luck getting a half way decent coach.SuperHornet wrote:I don't believe I said that it "happens all the time," clenz. So, when is the NFL going to be forced to hire wimmin as coaches Casey??SuperHornet wrote:I don't believe I said that it "happens all the time," clenz. The VOLUNTARY hiring of female coaches will happen eventually, Wedgie. The NBA's already broken the ice on THAT one.

Re: Bills Hire Rex Ryan
There may be something to that. But some teams might try to get around that by "reassigning" the coach within the organization the way some colleges do. The coach could always resign to avoid that, but if he's making a ton, he COULD accept it as a sinecure.tribe_pride wrote:The Jets had no leverage to make him sign a non-compete in the division and if they tried to force coaches to do that, good luck getting a half way decent coach.SuperHornet wrote:I don't believe I said that it "happens all the time," clenz.
