Think about the time this was written. Israelite's were surrounded by different peoples, worshiping different gods. Isrealites would take captive women of other tribes, groups, and to appease them, allow them to continue worshiping other gods. The context of this (those verses around it) is saying to not do that b/c there is but one god. D1b is right. This is God saying that people that worship another god, should be killed. THe relationship is moot.

At around 11a every Sunday, the church broadcast the sound of churchbells which could be heard for several blocks around. This had become a 30 year tradition and I never once recall ANYONE ever complain...it was, a comforting example of Americana. It was also a cosmopolitan community, with many religious denominations located nearby, including an LDS, Catholic, Synagogue and Mosque worship facilities.

Until one day when an ACLU lawyer representing a "class" of neighbors (one atheist lived a few blocks from the Nazarene church) filed suit under a noise ordinance asserting the noise to be offensive.
The church, in response, reduced the volume, but the action continued until the church was forced to discontinue the churchbell broadcast.

While I personally disagree with the outcome, if a law is crafted to prevent discriminatory practices, then it must be applied equally to all.
Reverse discrimination is arguably worse than discrimination due to the hypocrisy.
