JSO: NFL Talent
Of the two Super Bowl teams by collegiate conference, school, and state.
While a ton of HS talent comes from the South, most comes from California, Big 10 and Pac 12 are tops, and the Pac 12 has four out of the top 10 schools.

How many of them are blacks that were bred for their athleticism?kalm wrote:Of the two Super Bowl teams by collegiate conference, school, and state.

Please do not introduce JSO to the actual "facts"... it muddies his theories
And his theories are very well thought out and worthy of our complete acceptance (over the actual facts)

Re: JSO: NFL Talent
I don't see any issues. It's a fact that players on these two teams have the backgrounds they have, played where they played in college, etc. And it's a fact that at least as of when the survey described at http://www.besttickets.com/blog/nfl-player-census-2014/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; was conducted players in the NFL overall had the backgrounds they had.Again:

I'm not seeing any conflict here. If you look at the NFL overall in recent years the SEC has consistently had the most players per school in the league, etc. That does't mean it's like that for every individual NFL team.
Like right not according to the article Wisconsin has the most players on the two Super Bowl teams with 6 and my home State school LSU has 3. But if you go to http://espn.go.com/nfl/college/_/letter/w" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you can navigate around and find that Wisconsin has 34 players in the NFL overall while LSU has 42. Both things can be true at the same time.

Johnny...
There's nothing quite as "special" about the SEC as all the SEC fans would have us believe
But we get it... you really think the SEC is all that

Hey, living in Baton Rouge I get as tired of hearing the SEC superiority stuff as anyone. I was pulling for Ohio State when they played Florida and when they played LSU. I was pulling for Texas when they played Alabama and couldn't BELIEVE it when Colt McCoy went down early in the game. I almost even pulled for Florida State against Auburn. Almost.Johnny...

But it is what it is in terms of NFL talent. If you were to take the time to go to http://espn.go.com/nfl/college/_/letter/m" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, count the number of NFL players from each school and take averages for conferences the SEC is going to have the highest total number of players in the NFL as well as the highest average per team. It's been like that for years. I've followed it and periodically done it since the 1990s (though there was a time when it wasn't as easy because either that web site didn't exist or I didn't know about it). It's not THAT hard because you can copy the data and paste it into an Excel worksheet but it does take a little time.
You can look at the census thing I mentioned at http://www.besttickets.com/blog/nfl-player-census-2014/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and see that 6 of the top 15 NFL player producing schools are in the SEC. That might not sound like much at first glance but that's as compared to the ACC having 3, the Big 10 having 2, the Big 12 having 1, and the Pac 12 having 2. Independent Notre Dame is the other one.USC is #1 but there are SEC teams at 2, 3, 4, and 6.
You look at States covered by conferences and seven of the 10 States in the SEC footprint, including #2, #3, #4, and #9 are in the top 15 in terms of high school players in the NFL. And Florida at #2 is not far behind #1 California at 205 vs. 215.
You look at per capita production of NFL players who played high school in States and 8 of the top 15, including #1 through #6 along with #8 and #13, are in the SEC footprint.
There's just no way around it. The SEC produces the most NFL caliber talent overall and the most NFL caliber talent per school among college football conferences.

Re: JSO: NFL Talent
"Elite players" is a tough thing to evaluate because it has to be defined in some agreed upon way But I think it's safe to say that there are plenty of elite players who aren't on either of the two teams in this year's Super Bowl. And I also think it's safe to say that there are plenty of players on the rosters of the two Super Bowl teams who are not "elite" NFL players however that is reasonably defined. But the elite players come from Pac12 and Big10.

Re: JSO: NFL Talent
BTW, it doesn't definitively answer the question but if you look at the results of that survey I linked it includes the top 15 schools in term of productions of Pro Bowlers. If you just look at the top 15 schools the numbers of players by conference go like this:
SEC (5 schools) 30 Pro Bowl players
Pac 12 (4 schools) 25 Pro Bowl players
ACC (4 schools) 20 Pro Bowl players
Big 12 (2 schools) 14 Pro Bowl players
Big 10 (1 school) 5 Pro Bowl players
That's last year's Pro Bowl. But still guys, if you don't accept the fact that the SEC is the most talent laden college football conference you are just not dealing with reality. It's not like the difference is so great that other Big 5 conferences can't compete with them. But it IS the league with the most raw talent overall year in and year out. There's no reasonable doubt about that.

Re: JSO: NFL Talent
If Seattle wins, which I hope doesn't happen, then the SEC will be the conference with the most players on the championship team's roster. If the Patriots win, it'll be Big 10.But the two best teams are populated by players from those two conferences primarily.
So are we going to make a big deal of saying, if the Seahawks win, that it's the SEC but if the the Patriots win it's the Big 10?
