I have always felt that if somebody tries to steal someone else's property and gets killed in the process there should be no effort to prosecute the killer. This guy shouldn't have been prosecuted much less convicted. To the extent that we have laws that allow for a guy to be prosecuted in a case like this we should not have such laws.

I'm not sure what some German kid needs from someone else's garage badly enough to check it out at midnight, but he had to know none of his stuff was in someone else's garage. Did he deserve to die for it? Nope, and the guy shouldn't have been camping out waiting for someone to invade.

It's really kinda simple - if I want something badly enough, I'll find a way to legally get it without resorting to theft. I don't want to be in a confrontation where I might get a gun pointed in my face, so I don't go load up someone's unattended lawnmower in their yard or other property simply because it isn't secured.
