Eagles Trade Lesean McCoy

Post by 93henfan »

File under "what the fuck?"

And the Eagles get a former-Oregon LB who blew out his knee last year.

Sounds like a terrific deal.

Running back is becoming a plug and play position. They must be seeing something with McCoy that suggests he's easily replaceable.

That could very well be true but...I have to believe that McCoy is worth more than a LB who suffered an injury that serious. :?

This.

I'm still wondering if there's anything to this rumor that they might do like Ditka and trade WAY too much (within the division, no less) to move up to #5 and get Marcus Mariota....

(Personally, I think they'd be better off waiting a year and going after VA....)

Philly sports talk radio has been abuzz about Mariota for months - I'd be surprised if ti didn't happen.

I can live with it. DeMarco Murray proved last year that you don't need to be a great running back to get quality production from that position. Make sure you have a good offensive line and a good QB and you'll get numbers from the RB. I don't recall the Patriots being stacked at the RB position and they've done fine. I'll miss Shady, though.

The only risk with Alonso is the knee injuries, so far one to each knee. Other than that he's a stud at a position where the Eagles needed to get better, and his tiny salary, compared to McCoy, means that the Birds can go after a big name free agent at another position of need, possibly cornerback. And heck, they can probably resign Maclin or get a WR as well with those savings.

And if Peter King is right, and the Eagles can move from #20 in the draft to #5, and only part with a 2nd round this year and a first and fourth rounds next year (and swapping the first rounds this year obviously) then they can get Mariotta.

Significantly help the defense, upgrade the QB and only lose Shady - not a bad day's of work for Chip.

I was sure there was no way it would happen when the season was over, but with the moves we've been seeing, and with the fact that it wouldn't take a kings ransom to move up to where Mariotta would be (i.e. somewhere before the Jets - assuming the pundits are correct) I would be shocked now if they didn't go for it.

Bills aren't done. They just traded for Matt Cassell for undisclosed draft picks (and may be picking up a draft pick)

Well, he's certainly better than what we have, but the Eagles d-line is already a position of strength. It's the defensive backfield (and linebackers before the McCoy trade solved that) that is the area to fix.

They're going to be very active in free agency with $50M under the cap. Gore at RB, Maxwell at CB from the Seahawks are the first two so far. Expect many more.

Maxwell is being paid as the 4th highest CB if the contract #s are correct. That is a major overpay for someone who hasn't proved he can be a #1 CB. Don't get me wrong though, he is still an upgrade over what the Eagles had last year.

Eagles are looking to weaken the NFC west with these Gore/Maxwell moves and may look to weaken another threat in GB if they go after their CB Tramon Williams. Not a bad strategy.

Sproles and Gore will more than replace McCoy...
and the linebacker they picked up was no ordinary linebacker that was Kiko Alonso
and he will return to his previous excellent ways trust me on this

Andy Reid had the Eagle winning 4 games a season / Chip Kelly is a MASSIVE upgrade
Watch as Reid returns the Chiefs to their rightful 8-8 place holder

The Eagles are in good hands
