Never realized Maine and UNH hadn't made it - along with W&M, that's a long time for those long-time DI schools. A lot of the other schools are fairly newcomers to the division.

Everyone point an laugh at Northwestern!
That never gets old,
What happens first. NW in the NCAAs or Cubs World Series?

You can take the Manure Pile off that list, Jon. They just won the Big West Tournament....
IMO, it's kinda odd to mention schools who just moved up on that list. Why should Kennesaw have the same stigma that Northwestern gets for failing to make it as long as they've been in D-I?

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: Teams never to make the NCAA Tourney
The title of this thread is incorrect. It should read, "Teams never to have made the NCAA tourney." As it is written, it makes a prediction that these teams will never make the NCAA tourney. While such a prediction might be correct, it is clearly not what the OP (homo) meant.

While you have listed the ones who have never made the tourney, there are only five schools who are part of the original 160 Division I schools who have not made it to the NCAA tourney yet.
W&M - lost in CAA championship game 3 of last 7 years and is the #1 seed this year. Made 2 NITs - last 2010
St. Francis (NY) - #1 seed in the NEC this year. Made 3 NITs last 1963
Army - already knocked out of the Patriot League tourney - Made 8 NITs - last 1978
The Citadel - already knocked out of the Southern Conference tourney - Made 0 NITs
Northwestern - tied for 10th place in the Big Ten right now - Made 7 NITs - last 2012

NONE of the schools on that list are ANYTHING like The Citadel.
Thats what was wrong with the title.

Very true. Meanwhile, every school in the Big South sans CCU can be added to the list.CID1990 wrote:No, CG... even you're wrong.CitadelGrad wrote:The title of this thread is incorrect. W&M threw it away tonight against Northeastern (themselves making the tournament for the first time since 1991).dbackjon wrote:tribe_pride wrote:While you have listed the ones who have never made the tourney, there are only five schools who are part of the original 160 Division I schools who have not made it to the NCAA tourney yet.

W&M is going to try to go for a record of how many times they can get one game away from the tourney without actually making the tourney. Gotta have a lot of heart to be a Tribe basketball fan.JALMOND wrote:W&M threw it away tonight against Northeastern (themselves making the tournament for the first time since 1991).dbackjon wrote:

Re: Teams, Like El Cid, that have not yet made the NCAA Tour
While this list is quite long, many of these schools have only been in DI for less than 30-40 years. If you really want to look at futility, the five schools that have been in DI since the NCAA Tournament's inception in 1947 and never made the Big Dance are:
William & Mary
The Citadel
Army
Northwestern
St. Francis-Brooklyn
W&M had a chance this year and they blew it. With Thornton now gone, it might be awhile before the Tribe get another shot.

St. Francis also Brook-ed it, losing to Robert Morris on their own court.tribe_pride wrote:While you have listed the ones who have never made the tourney, there are only five schools who are part of the original 160 Division I schools who have not made it to the NCAA tourney yet.

When will the list of the "Futile Five" become zero? We'll start asking ourselves that question.
All the Ivy League needs to become relevant again is to diversify its OOC schedule.
