Eagles are looking to weaken the NFC west with these Gore/Maxwell moves and may look to weaken another threat in GB if they go after their CB Tramon Williams. Not a bad strategy.
It's free agency, every free agent contract is, by definition, an "overpay". At least in this case, the Eagles get a major upgrade at a position where they stunk last year.

If all this leads to getting Mariotta then I'm good with it. Gore/Sproles/Polk will be plenty decent enough at the RB position lining up alongside Mariotta, and Maclin was going to cost the Birds too much for what he gave them. Look for Zach Ertz to really start to shine next year in this offense at TE. Eagles now have a much better LB than last year and a much better CB and Mariotta gives them a much better QB. Like Herremans said, this offense is all about the QB and the OL - everything else is just plug and play. Mariotta is the QB, and the OL was already pretty good. Fix the defense, which is what they are doing, and the Eagles will have a chance to challenge GB and Seattle (and Arizona) for NFC supremacy. The Eagles as they were constructed before all this never were going to surpass those teams.

Mariotta is not a proven commodity yet.

And he's put up average numbers but has been able to ride the best defense in the league.

He's going to get one of the riches QB contracts in the league and deserve it no more than Flacco does his...which according to almost everyone here is not at all.

Huh? Why the hate towards Flacco, who might be the best post-season QB in the NFL right now? That's where he earns the money.

Eh, for this offense, he's as close as you get to a proven commodity without playing a down in the NFL. I'll roll the dice on him than try to keep getting water from a stone like the Eagles were doing with Foles. Foles isn't terrible, but again, sticking to that path was going to keep the Eagles just behind GB, Sea, and Ariz. I'd like a chance to win the NFC and the way to do that for the Eagles is to fix the holes on D (i.e. the defensive backfield, which they are halfway to fixing, and the LB spot, which Alonso fills) and get an upgrade at QB who can run a little (doesn't have to be a lot, just enough for the threat). Status quo wasn't going to get them over the hump.

It's not my thoughts.

It was pretty consensus though after he signed that deal it was to much, on this site.... And most places

Does Dilfer have the most postseason wins in NFL history? No?

Yeah, let's not pay the dude who has helped lead the Seahawks to 2 Superbowl appearances, won one, and was one yard away from winning another. Also, he has the record for most wins by a QB to start his career. The man is clearly a bum. :dunce:

Also, the fact that he's shown progress over the 3 years he's been in the league, that must be a fluke. All the while doing it without a true #1 WR or TE. Hawks should cut him now because he's not worth it! :dunce:

Please stop talking about the Hawks because clearly you have no idea what you're spouting.

There are a few things Flacco doesn't do enough of that's for sure...
But this thread was suposed to be about LeSean McCoy

My guess is the Eagle win 11 games this season
and the Ravens should win 9 or so

Not one word about the racist Stephen A. Smith calling Chip a racist in this thread?

Yeah, that would suck for the Birds if they can't land Gore - I thought he was perfect for what the Eagles want and I think he has plenty of production still left in him. Can't blame him for wanting to play with Luck if that's where he ends up. We should know sometime today I suspect.

Well, Gore is officially gone.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12454 ... olis-colts

You know, the Eagles could throw everyone a curve here and pick up Ray Rice. How would that look. Stephen A Smith's take on that would be something. Oh, and Rice would be a great back for this offense.

Ok, I was with Chip up until this last one - swapping Foles with Sam Bradford? Eric Lindros had a prefectly healthy career when compared with Bradford. Geez, this one doesn't make a lot of sense.
