3/7 Scores

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

  • Men

ID 65-67 ISU; The Vandals got their needed help, but shooting 34% against a lame duck doesn't bode well
PSU 86-73 SUU; Collin Spickerman gets 21 points and 15 rebounds as the Viks decapitate the T-Birds
EWU 79-71 WEB (OT); The Wildcats choke away a 19-point lead, but luck out with the Suutah loss
SAC 68-70 NAU; You don't deserve to win a conference title when you get outrebounded 43-17
UMT 70-54 MSU; Chris Kemp comes out of nowhere to get a career-high 17 points for the clinching Griz
UND 71-72 UNC; Quinton Hooker scores 28, but the No-Nicks still finish the season on a 9-game skid

    Women

WEB 62-64 EWU (OT); The Eagles surprisingly struggle despite winning points-off-turnovers by 20
SUU 65-80 PSU; PSU shoots 54% and Jennifer Mountain avoids going winless in her interim coaching tenure
NAU 81-105 SAC; Hornets win turnovers 34-14 and score in triple digits for the 3rd. straight game
ISU 53-77 ID; The Vandals got their 4th. straight home romp, but it still wasn't enough
UMT 57-65 MSU; The Bobcats take advantage of UM's lack of motivation by taking a 24-5 lead early
UNC 67-56 UND; NoDak finishes the regular season with 6 straight losses to teams that aren't Portland St.

Well deserved for McKinney. He plays tough ball on both sides of the court. Harvey’s injury probably hurt him as well. Probably a coin flip between the 2 but I think they got it right. Garrity got a 2nd team nod.

I wouldn't have given it to either McKinney or Harvey. I thought it would be split between Breunig & Jois.

Travis DeCuire Somehow Doesn't Win Coach of the Year

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

http://bigskyconf.com/news/2015/3/10/MB ... 50409.aspx

Award gets split between Hayford & Katz. Again, I wonder how much of the voting was done before the season ended.

Montana was picked 8th. by the coaches, yet these same coaches don't vote him COY after finishing T-1st? :?

Not only that, but the award came out surprising early this year. Last year, the COY award didn't get released until after the tournament.

Coach of the year? Do you agree?

Venus, you're forgetting that Sac hasn't seen a winning season in 38 years and just posted the most in-conference wins in school history. If that's not worth a COY (or a piece thereof), the voters are as blind as a bat....

Except Katz has been there for 7 years, so some of the past failures and low expectations are his responsibility. It took him 6 years just to make the Big Sky Tournament.

Decuire took a team picked 8th. to the championship in his first year.

With the worst facilities in D1.

If Decuire's peers felt felt he was deserving, then they would have voted for him. Pretty clean cut as that. :coffee:

Why Tyler Harvey not winning the MVP doesn't matter.

Great, great read here…

Oh so no uproar about a coach taking his team that was picked in the bottom half of the conference and finishing near the top of the conference on the women's side not getting the nod eh? Shocker.

I did think Harkleroad was more deserving than Katz was. gogriz.com actually predicted Harkleroad would win it in the pregame writeup from last week.

It's hard to ever argue with choosing Robin Selvig, though. :thumb:

Seriously, though, I'm guessing that Decuire & Harkleroad haven't been in the league very long was a factor. The coaches are probably more comfortable voting for someone they know better.

I don't disagree, just pointing out the double standard regarding the complaints on the men's side.
