Looks like we have another coach who is prone to outsmarting himself.
The only way I can fathom this is the Jets wanted Bradford and not Foles if we're trading up with them to get Mariotta.

Looks like the trade is Bradford and a 5th for Foles, a 4th and a 2nd in 2016. Wow!

Hey, it's not my fault Gore decided he wanted to play for a contender and Chip wants a QB made of glass. Don't take it out on me. :ugeek:

It's obvious what Kelly's doing. He's trying to set the table with enough picks to trade up for Mariota. Whether or not he's successful remains to be seen. But that's exactly what he's trying to do....

How do you figure? They currently have an extra 5th this year and an upgraded 4th by 6 spots this year and have lost their 2nd next year. The loss of next year's second makes it tough to trade up at least 14 spots (Jets' spot). Are they sticking with Bradford?

While there's certainly a chance that Chip may actually want Bradford, what's more likely is that this is still a move for Mariotta. The Eagles got screwed last year when Green Bay traded up to the pick right in front of the Eagles and took Ha Ha Clinton-Dix when the Eagles really needed a player like that. Maybe the Eagles wanted to make sure that they don't get trumped again - the Rams were a team in search of a QB and they could've been a threat to either trade up ahead of the Eagles or even be a team that could outbid the Eagles and move into the Jets pick at #6. By giving them Foles, that takes the Rams out of an ever decreasing number of teams that could trade up to get Mariotta. The Jets still need a QB, but it's unlikely they'll take one at #6, so they could settle for a QB like Bradford, especially with the conditions that came with him in this trade (i.e. the picks they would get from the Rams if Bradford doesn't play or doesn't play 50% of the year). Still looks like moves to get Mariotta on draft day to me.

Yup, so Chip actually wanted Bradford and sees him as the QB. Well, Chip is the guy who picked Ricky Santos out of obscurity and made him into a great QB at the FCS level, so we'll have to see if he's right about Bradford. I think Bradford is good, I just question if he can stay upright for enough games. But I'm fine with the moves - if the Eagles didn't do anything but shore up the defense (which they couldn't have done as much if they still had McCoy) then I still didn't see them being able to crack the top 3 of the NFC. Foles wasn't winning a Super Bowl for us so we had to go with someone else. Would've preferred it not to be an invalid, but again, maybe Chip can work his magic.

At least now we can just talk about who the Eagles are going to take at #20 since it appears they have no interest in getting Mariotta.

Ahem.
League-rushing champion DeMarco Murray personally reached out to Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly on Wednesday morning, expressing his desire to play in Kelly's spread offense and with former Oklahoma roommate and quarterback Sam Bradford, according to league and team sources...

Murray's problem just an Uncle Tom obviously. Should hear from Stephen Smith on that at some point I suppose.

Only if the Eagles end up not drafting him. That tune will change if they end up drafting him.

He'll be the perfect fit to run Kelley's offense…better than any experienced QB to lead them into the top three of the NFC.

I'd rather have Mariota than Bradford (and rather have Bradford than Foles - who knows, Bradford had no help with the Rams, maybe with the Eagles OL and scheme he'll fare better). We'll have to see if Chip is playing the long con here and trying to pull a draft day surprise.

If, and that's still a big if, Murray signs with the Eagles that's something I certainly didn't envision.

Bradford, if healthy, isn't much different than Foles IMO. The whole getting Mariota idea was to take the team to the next level versus the 10-6 mold....

Sounds like this is a done deal.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12468 ... ia-eagless

Still think Bradford is better than Foles, but the key will be how much.

As for the 10-6, well, I don't think they're any different on offense than they were last year, and possibly better depending on Bradford, and their defense is better than last year. That's a net improvement over a 10-6 team that was never going to be much better than that, but the wild card is the health of the QB - if Bradford can't stay on the field then it's all for naught.

So...

Kelly signs a black guy
Resigns a Mexican
Recruited black guys and samoans at Oregon
Has a roster that is probably 85% black

but....

He's a racist.
