Yep, even if there was any type of confrontation that occurred before the video there wasn't any reason for the cop to shoot 8 times at a guy's back who is running away.

Cops need to learn - one shot- in the hamstring - brings the suspect down - non-lethal, non-story.

A statement released by North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said a man ran on foot from the traffic stop and an officer deployed his department-issued Taser in an attempt to stop him.

That did not work, police said, and an altercation ensued as the men struggled over the device. Police allege that during the struggle the man gained control of the Taser and attempted to use it against the officer.

The officer then resorted to his service weapon and shot him, police alleged.

Officers tried to revive him prior to the arrival of paramedics, police said. But their efforts were in vain. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Police did not immediately specify whether he was armed.

Agree 100%. NC police have tasers, pepper spray and a weapon. Why couldn't he had been pepper sprayed, tasered or at least shot in the leg. This cop fucked up.

I think that under current law the policeman is toast. I will say, though, that I personally believe that the law should be such that if you try to run from the police they should be able to shoot you in order to stop you. I don't agree with the standard that they can only shoot you if their life is in danger or someone else's life is in danger.

I do think cops are over aggressive in many cases and use excessive force fairly routinely. Nevertheless, when it comes to it, I have always believed that if the police are trying to get you and you flee they should be able to shoot you in order to stop you. If you don't want to get shot, don't flee.

Jeez man, in your eyes has a black man ever done anything wrong before? I'm not saying he did or didn't in this case and he certainly didn't deserve 8 shots directed at him, but most everyone in this thread has agreed on the cop's overreaction and guilt. You can see that something happened and was dropped before the guy ran but I have no idea what it was and neither do you. I doubt the cop went out hunting a middle aged black guy that day and something likely happened that caused a conflict but again I don't know what that was.
