What a clown. Reporters report on the team. What a douche.

Yeah, I heard about that. I'd have at least suspended him on the spot....

Why? He's entitled to say what he wants. All of the profanity aside, he's fucking spot on.

The thing is. He may be right that that information doesn't help the Reds but it's not a reporters job to help the Reds. It is the reporter's job to ask the questions and write a story. If he doesn't want to answer for one reason or another, he doesn't have to answer and almost all managers know how to get around answering questions.

Most keep it professional on both sides. They know what the other has to do but they each have to play their roles. Managers and players will often let reporters know certain things that need to be confidential and the reporters will keep such information confidential but in a public interview like this one, expect the questions to be asked and talk around a subject if you don't want to answer. No need for a tirade there.

Exactly. It's the only thing of interest about baseball to me so glad it happened.

No, he's really not. It's not HIS job to define to the reporter what HIS job is. He's under no obligation to ANSWER questions that are posed, but he certainly can't fault the reporter for ASKING. In fact, if I was the reporter's boss and he WASN'T asking those questions, I'd probably fire him. Unless that reporter is a Reds employee, he's doing exactly what he should be doing. The manager sounds like a grade-A douchebag, and I was glad to hear the reporter finally grow some balls midway through the tirade and tell him he was wrong...

This.

There's absolutely no reason for it. While he's correct about the concept of keeping some things "in-house," he HAS to realize that speaking with a reporter is by definition PR work. When you're doing PR work, you just can't "go there." It shows you off on a national stage as being an idiot. At the worst, it's on video, and everyone sees it, giving the club bad pub from the get-go. If it's in print, you're trusting that the reporter will quietly edit that trash out. But that doesn't even always work, because some reporters will show redactions in there, like [expletive]. Unless you're dealing with Rolling Stone and other similar publications where profanity is kinda-sorta "expected," you're just giving the owner the ammunition he can use to support firing you for cause. A manager who fails on the field in one spot can usually expect a second chance (see Belichick, Carroll, Martin). But if you're fired "for cause," nobody's gonna touch you with a ten-and-a-half foot pole....

MLB managers have the easiest jobs in America. Sit on the bench and make your coaches do the work. Yell at the umpires occasionally, and talk to the media. THAT'S IT. Are they required to share personal info to the media, absoultely fucking not. The media today is the biggest fucking joke in the world.

No different than the tirades other coaches and managers have went on in the past.

I'd say it's a tie between Hal McRae and Lou Piniella for best tirades, with a tip o' the cap to Billy Martin and Earl Weaver. Price is just a punk.

American League managers have a slightly easier time than National League managers. American League managers don't need to worry about double switches for when the pitcher is up to bat.
