Initial reaction on social media is not good. Fans wanted someone with Cup experience. Who knows? New blood could be good. I'm just glad we didn't get another organizational retread like Berube, Holmgren, Barber, etc.
I'd rather this than the idea that was floating that they would hire Terry Murray again. I agree, the Flyers need some blood from outside the organization, it's been just too many yes-men for the past decades really. Gotta roll the dice and try something different.

Through 2 periods, least discipline game ever by both teams with 7 separate penalties in the 1st period and 2 more in the 2nd. TB is leading 3-2 where I don't believe any of the goals are the goaltenders' fault (except maybe the 3rd on Lundqvist but even that was on a 2 on 1 so maybe not as it was off of the rebounded initial save). Each team has been down to 3 men at one point (TB scored just as they got a 4th back on a breakaway but were essentially down 2 men during the goal). Bishop is lucky as anything as he lost control of the puck behind the net and one of his defensemen went to the goal to stop the wraparound shot. Ugly game which is leading goals to be scored. Let's see what the 3rd period brings.

Even a linesmen has been injured and needed to be replaced. because of a check where he got sandwiched.

Would the Flyers take a chance on Barry Melrose?

Rangers continued their undisciplined play and basically gave up 3 PP goals in the 3rd (1 of the goals was within 5 seconds after a PP was over while the other 2 were in the PP) to lose 6-2. Hopefully, they got the crap out of their system.

5 of TBs 6 goals were within 5 seconds of being on the PP or shorthanded and both of Rangers goals were that way.

The other goal was on a 2 on 1 break by TB while the shorthanded was a breakaway.

The Rangers did what I needed them to do last series. Now they need to lose three more games in this series.

Does it really matter? Anaheim is going to win no matter who they play.

If Andersen plays like he did on Sunday, you are correct. Chicago controlled play especially in the 1st period but Andersen was awesome and not so good Crawford showed up for the Hawks. Lets see if the Hawks respond tonight like TB did or if Anaheim can take both games in Cali

Looks like about 16 minutes of 3OT were enough for Chicago to tie the series at 1. That finished too late for me. Both Conference finals are tied going into Game 3.

Grueling game. Excellent play by the net tenders. Bizarre in that Chicago was outplayed in 5 1/2 periods of a hockey game and still won.

It took me awhile to find it. The rule is pretty obscure, all the way on page 113 of the rulebook. (If you click on the link, and it doesn't go directly to the page, tell the Adobe Reader to go to page 123, as there are ten pages of differently numbered front matter in the rulebook.)
NHL Rulebook wrote:Section 10 - Game Flow

Rule 78 - Goals

Paragraph 78.5 - Disallowed Goals

Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the Referee and the appropriate announcement made by the Public Address Announcer for the following reasons:

(i) When the puck has been directed, batted, or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick.
http://www.nhl.com/nhl/en/v3/ext/rules/ ... lebook.pdf

I guess it's equated with kicking the puck into the net. We've all seen THOSE kinds of goals disallowed. The way the rule is written, the ref didn't even have to cite the INTENTIONAL aspect of this goal; all he had to do was say that some element of the shooter's person/equipment other than the stick provided the impetus that sent the puck into the goal. One could theoretically have a goal taken away if a puck ACCIDENTALLY rebounded from a guy's head into the net.

While in THIS case, the goal would have hurt my Mighty Ducks, we might want to re-visit this rule. Header goals would be a nice addition to the game, IMO.

Pucks can go off a helmet (or anything else) and into the net and it's a good goal. They also allow you to position your skate to defect a shot/pass in, as long as there is no kicking motion.

Damn - another high scoring game where Rangers lost in OT. Rangers were great generally against the Metropolitan, Central, and Pacific divisions but were subpar against the Atlantic especially TB. Hopefully they can turn this around.

It's not just suddenly. Rangers have had a lot of trouble against TB all year having scored fewer than 4 goals only 1 time in 6 games so far this year. It's one of those things where TB has their number and one of the few teams that matches up perfectly against the Rangers. Out of the 12 goals in the last 2 games, only 1 or 2 were savable. TB is passing across the ice to wide open guys like in no games I have seen before.

Games this season:
Game 3 - 5-6 Loss OT
Game 2 - 2-6 Loss
Game 1 - 2-1 Win
Dec 1 - 3-6 Loss
Nov 26 - 3-4 Loss
Nov 17 - 1-5 Loss
