what could they do? even if they did know, and know full well... what could they have done? they didn't have the majority until '07 (so they couldn't even call hearings before then)... and in 07-08... they still didn't have the votes to impeach... the white house hid all of this stuff under the guise of "executive privilege" and shut down all investigations... they were downing the football for almost two years on the dems... and there was little recourse for pursuing any of it.

i worked for a fairly senior dem in 07 - and the thing that was impressed upon me was that while they were doing stuff that could and should have gotten them impeached, not a single Republican could be counted on to cross the line and take the vote to do so.

as for the crack about "all politicians" i'm tired of it... it's the province of lazy minds... most members of congress are pretty decent people making incredibly hard decisions.

it's funny, there was a comment above about how "they won't make a hard vote, or they have their finger in the wind" and then... if they make the hard decision the bitching about "not representing their constituents" gets rolling... so which do you want?... because you can't have both.
I want them to tell me what the stand for and which way they would vote and take they chance that they would lose if they are honest.

PS, although I argued with Cap'n Cat, I do think most go to DC with the best of intentions. I do think most are honorable. And I do think most of the time they are hard working and work toward goals they believe in .However, I do think most end up sticking their finger in the wind and talking out of both sides of their mouth to protect their own rear ends. I don't know what Pelosi knew or didn't know but I would rather and I think most people would rather a politician say I made a mistake. IT was one of the interesting things about Clinton and Lewinsky that always amazed me. I understand the wife issue and so forth and so on. But you are an elected representative. If Bill would have simply admitted it, the whole thing would never have been a big deal (not raising Clinton issues it was an example. I would have used Nixon but I think he was in so deep there was no hope that his transgressions would have gone away.)

These are not a people running a machine or running a Company. Their fidudicary responsibility is to US. They owe us honesty.

cool! and we'll be so far removed from "superpower" status you'll need a telescope to find it again...

isolationism belongs on the side of the road in 1941, along with laissez faire economics, left there in 1929

Not so! Non-interventionism does NOT equate to isolationism.

A strong, efficient military could keep the sea lanes open for trade and ruthlessly punish those who harm American citizens abroad.

Many social programs and constant over-reaching in foreign affairs by vboth Republicans and Democrats impoverishes our citizenry and reduces our superpower status.

Our legislative attacks on free enterprise since 1929 have not always been productive or contributed to "progress." Glass-Steagall was good. Free trade and fair trade legislation is usually productive. However, much of the New Deal has been and will continue to be an economic anchor which ultimately lowers the standard of living even for those it is intended to assist.

If I had done the exact same thing with a subordinate as the Commander in Chief did, while in a position of authority, I would have been discharged. Rightly so. If I had also lied about it, I would have been dishonorably discharged and maybe even sent to Leavenworth.

In the years that Rob and I were together enough that I would considered married, we paid about $30K more in taxes than if the Government had recognized it.

Either eliminate all the benefits (which will never happen) or recognize same-sex marriage.

Uh, that turned out to be one of worst decisions in presidential and American history. Your great, great grandchildren will be paying for it.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."
