Found out one of my old rugby mate's son is Kevin Harvick's business manager, so I became a Harvick fan since last year.

Nothing wrong with that. I've been a Harvick fan ever since he stepped into Sr's car.

Keselowski's a jackass, but Harvick did pull a punk ass move last year by sneaking up behind Keselowski, shoving him in the back towards Gordon, then slithering away....

Was pulling hard for Truex last week. Sucks for him. Being from NJ, my girlfriend's and family's favorite driver. Probably had the best car..His crew chief made a boneheaded call. The choice was either stay out of pit and get fuel and 2 tires. Fuel and no tires was just dumb...

"....Truex led five times for a race-high 95 laps and was second behind Kevin Harvick when the final caution of the night flew on Lap 257. With many teams concerned about fuel mileage, crew chief Cole Pearn called his driver to pit road for a fuel-only pit stop.

While Truex was able to win the race off pit road, four cars -- Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kurt Busch and Jeff Gordon -- did not pit and restarted in the first two rows when the race went back to green with six laps to go.

When Busch struggled to get going on the restart, Truex dropped through the field as drivers scrambled for position on the final run of the race. Unable to get back into contention, Truex finished the night in the ninth spot, his 10th top-10 finish of the 2015 season......

....By stopping for fuel but not taking any tires, along with Busch backing up the inside lane on the restart, Truex was unable to hold off those with tires behind him....."

Johnson gets his 3rd win of the season, Harvick 2nd and Junior 3rd. ..18 year old Erik Jones, in his 1st Sprint Cup start, was subbing for Kyle Busch in the #18 M&Ms and was running 5th when he got loose on and went into the wall on lap 196 (of 267).

Last night in the Camping World Truck Race from Charlotte Jones was neck and neck with Kasey Kahne at the end, losing by .005 of a second in a photo as people were wreckin behind them. Most impressive 18 yr old driver I have ever seen.

Pretty soon iowa won't need to add very many seats to get a sprint race.

Still needs a ton of infrastructure around it though

The positive of the seat reduction is that the track looked more full than the past couple of years. I'd guess 60k or so today just eyeballing it. The days of 140k are long gone at Dover.

That shit right there looks even worse than the 20,000 empty seats that were there before.

If DD was smart, they would extend the main building part around turn 3 and add enclosed grandstands, club boxes and restaurants.

Its a new age for NASCAR, the days of sitting in open stands for 5 hours in the sun are long gone.
MEAC, last one out turn off the lights.

What turn 2? Besides the lower turn 3 stands that were removed as shown in 93's pic the turn 2 seats were gone...

Section 204 is the last remaining section in the lower stands. If you want to get technical, section 209 is probably the gateway to turn 2. But I call it turn 2.

Fewer drunks this time. More heat-related issues, and old people who couldn't climb up to row 30.

I sat in upper 210 last Sept, almost midpoint turns 2 & 3. Was in the Earnhardt Grandstands, section 238 yesterday. Looks like they took out Turn 2 sections 186-201 which were lower sections only and 202-203, which were upper & lower. If Turn 2 goes to section 209 I guess you could say close to 2/3 of the Turn 2 seats are gone. As far as Turn 3 it looks like about 15 of about 20 lower sections were removed as evidenced by 93's pic. Old seating chart:

Let's not overanalyze. On NASCAR ovals, the dividing line between turns 1 and 2 is 90 degrees on the quadrant and 270 degrees for turns 3 and 4.

At Dover, there are still spectator stands in turns 2 and 3, though like BDK said, probably 2/3 gone now.

I saw some of the rebroadcast on FSN today and it definitely helped with the visual attendance. Track looked about 3/4 full as opposed to about 1/2 last year.

Hey BDK, nice job continuing your streak of making no attempt to meet fellow CS.com posters at shared sporting events in Delaware. :thumb:

Also, I love how the scale of that seating chart is accurate enough to see the history of expansion at the track. When I first started attending as a preschooler in the mid 70s, the original stands (now called the Petty grandstand) seated 22,000. In the early 80s, they added the first half of what is now called the Earnhardt grandstand. A couple of years later what is now called the Allison grandstand. Then the Turn 1 media center. Then the rest of the Earnhardt grandstand to fill the gap to the old media center. Then later, I think it was early 90s, they went into overdrive, expanding every offseason. First the lower bowl in the turns, the the upper bowl. They also added 14 additional rows to the Petty grandstand. We were always the top row, start finish line which was row 32. After the expansion we became row 46. They also built all new press boxes and moved them up in relation to our row. Back in the day, when we stood up for restarts we actually blocked the people in the pressbox. They'd pound on the glass and we'd flip them off.

I know, cool story bro. But I love talking about Dover and NASCAR.

Jr qualifies 16th but has to start from the rear due to changing a rear gear yesterday morning. Works his way up to 7th but then gets a pit road speeding penalty around lap 250 that puts him back to around 22nd. He worked his way back up to 14th...

Truex leads the most laps for the 3rd straight (points) race in a row and fails to win. Course besides Junior I'm rootin for Truex because my girlfriends family, being from NJ, are Truex fans. Plus the guy seems like a cool dude, is doing an awesome job driving for a small, single car team, and seems to have the worst luck..
-Lost Kansas on fuel strategy and a bad late pit call when he took fuel only when he should have taken 2 tires, -----
-Lost Charlotte on fuel strategy.
-Lost yesterday on a bad late pit call when he took 2 tires and should have taken 4.

Looks like a cool track to watch a race at- 7/8 mile, similar to Richmond. Wiki says 30k capacity/25k permanent. Still would have to about double that. And looking at the 6 tracks west of the Mississippi that currently have a Sprint race, they're all in/near a major metro area with a large airport.
-Texas (north of Fort Worth, 1/2 hr from DFW)
-Las Vegas
-Kansas (Kansas City)
-California (less than 10 miles from Ontario & within about an hr from 4 more commercial airports in LAX, Long Beach, Orange County/John Wayne & Burbank
-Phoenix
-Sonoma (35 miles outside of SFO)

Quick look at Google maps and Iowa Speedway is almost smack dab in the middle of Iowa showing over 3 hrs from KC, close to 4 from Minneapolis, and about 4 from Chicago. Don't see it ever getting a Sprint race...
