The Gateway thing seemed overly ambitious but figured they might be on the road to something that put them near the top of the conference with facilities but I really do hope they get a couple of things done there. The fans (not kalm and those like him) are just pretty much childish dicks but it is a great setting for a good football team.

Once they get some good visitor side bleachers I think they are on their way but for whatever reason they have not been able to capitalize on recent success.

Serious now kalm, what do you think is holding it back?

Ambitious indeed because it goes way beyond expanding seating with commercial space (sports bar, bank, coffee shop), locker rooms, bus top, the causeway over Washington Street to connect to the rest of the campus, etc.

From what I understand the hold up is funding and issues with state approval on the structure of the funding. It sounds like they have some deep pocketed interest that would provide enough start up money to get the project rolling but these are big asks and I'm guessing the situation with state approval of the financing, naming rights, and nature of donations might be holding that up as well.

Our fan base, with obvious hindsight would prefer baby steps at this point. Start a fundraising campaign to at least improve the east grand stand (you know, the aluminum bleachers that everyone sees on TV ) and increase capacity. We have averaged a sellout for the past 3 years during the regular season so the demand is obviously there.

And this isn't the first time you've mentioned childish dicks. Who pissed in your Wheaties the last time you were in Cheney and how long ago was that? Every time Montana plays here the upper parking lot tailgate section is full of eagle and griz fans co-mingling. There are a ton of Griz faithful in Spokane and most of the EWU tailgaters I know have several around most games and I haven't heard of anyone being given shit.

That isn't to mean it doesn't happen but you of all people should realize every fan base has it's knucklheads and most fans are decent people. Remember, I've had a side-line at WA Griz and it ain't a pretty thing down there when you have Eagle gear on.

Suffice it to say I do know how fans can get along there, I've been there probably six or seven times and when there have stayed with Griz fans living over there...I am aware of things you posted.

We all have knuckleheads, no doubt, but I also won't set foot in Bozeman again for a game due to trouble there as well. Now does that sort of trouble follow me? I doubt that but when I have a douchebag running his mouth in front of me I wasn't one that was much for talking it out. I'm a little kalmer now but I'm not sure if I'm kalm enough.

Last game in Bozeman was probably 93 or 94. Last time in Cheney was probably 04 or 05 so you made it much further than MSU did. Again, it's just a matter of me not mixing well with that fringe of those fanbases.

"We are also continuing to craft a fundraising campaign for the Gateway project, transforming our stadium to be an even more vibrant addition to the university and community. Building on our recent athletic achievements on the national stage, this initiative will move forward in the coming year."

So it seems it's not completely dead. Something will be built. I'm not sure that it's going to be the $80 million version or whatever, but the new president has been involved in the process very early on. I'm sure whatever is built will be a vast improvement over what we have now, even though there have been incremental improvements to the stafium the past few years.
