Big South 2015

Post by bjtheflamesfan »

This year will be a milestone for me, as this will be the 5th season I will be posting my personal preview threads about Big South conference football. Here is the schedule for my previews for 2015:

June 27: QBs
July 4: RBs
July 11: WRs
July 18: TEs
July 25: OL (open discussion)
August 1: DL (open discussion)
August 8: LBs
August 15: DBs
August 22: K/P
August 29: Game by Game Predictions

Looking forward to welcoming Kennesaw State fans to the discussions this year as the Owls debut in football in 2015

Thanks for doing it! The Big South is continuing its rise.

This year I think its gonna be the same: Coastal and Liberty the clear favorites and a couple teams may be a pesky 3rd place team. Last year it was CSU and they nearly pulled a 3 way tie for the BSC title.

I think they do the same this year. 4/5 OL is back. They're loaded at QB and WR. Last year their defense was good and returns most of it other than 3 DL....but they add South Carolina transfer DE Gerald Turner, a former 3-star recruit.

CSU gets CCU and Liberty at home this year.

My prediction? I think it ends a 3 way tie. CSU will upset one of the two favorites. And that team will beat everyone else in the BSC to force a 3 way tie.

PC will.be tough. Gardner Webb will too as usual. But neither is quite there yet.

Kennessaw and Monmouth are kinda unknowns. But I doubt they'll compete in the top half.

Looking forward to them.

Big South has supplanted, IMHO, the SoCon for best SE US FCS football conference.

Agree. Coastal, Liberty and Charleston Southern will all likely be ranked in preseason polls. Presbyterian returns virtually their whole defense from last year, just need to find some offense. GW also returns much of their defense. Monmouth was competitive first year in league and may surprise a few teams. KSU could field a decent first year team and not win a game in the conference (although their head coach predicted six wins overall this fall which was interesting).

That job got a little harder in the offseason. PC's starting QB gave up the game and transferred.

Hadn't heard that comment. I might give them half that number.

Here's the article in the Atlanta paper: predicts 6 wins this fall, title in five years. I'll give them four wins over the combination of NAIA/D2 schools etc on their schedule. Dayton will be competitive even though they are a middling team in the Pioneer. Will be a challenge to win any of the six games in the Big South, but suppose anything is possible.

I think it will be a 2 horse race in the conference once again...and the Big South is probably a 2 bid league with the likely parties once again being Coastal and Liberty. CSU's at large chances are not helped, once again, by their non-conference schedule. The only chance they really have for a signature win is @Troy, and even that won't move the needle in the committee room unless the Trojans win about 9 or 10 games and finish the season ranked.

I watched Kennesaw State's Spring game. They have some good athletes. I don't think they can compete with Coastal and Liberty but I wouldn't be surprised if they win 3 of Gardner-Webb, Monmouth, Presbyterian, and Chuck South.

I will give a spoiler alert right now that said, but Kennesaw State will be at the bottom for every position, only due to not having any stats to really base their good or badness on

Getting excited fellas.

Saw a bunch of CSU players at the beach today doing sprints. Whole team gets to campus July 6 for summer II session. Its getting closer!

As for Kennesaw St....im not overlooking them. The state of Georgia is flooded with great HS players. UGA, Tech, Georgia Southern, Valdosta State, West Georgia...man they play some good ball in that state.

Re: Big South 2015 - KSU

Post by Stickman »

Guess the advantage to KSU being in Atlanta is they are getting a lot of pub about the upcoming season, particularly their QB, who at age 22 hasn't played a down of football since he was a senior in high school.

http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/college/ ... amp/nm9pN/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Their HC has guaranteed six wins in prior articles and they are a sexy pick to win a BS game (or two), but I see a 3-8 record:

ETSU/SoCon (another startup) - W
Edward Waters/NAIA (2014 4-6) - W
Shorter/D II (2014 3-8) - L
Dayton/FCS (2014 8-3) - L
Point/NAIA (2014 0-9) - W
GW/Home - L
Liberty/Away - L
Monmouth/Home - L
CSU/Home - L
Coastal/Away - L
PC/Away - L

They seem to step up every now and then for FCS teams, gave CSU a tough game two years ago. Is part of a four game road stretch for Shorter so could have gone either way with that one.

Congrats to Coach Bohannon and Kennesaw for reaching the 6-win mark before November. Told you guys they wouldn't be a Big South doormat.
