http://www.al.com/news/anniston-gadsden ... offic.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The City of Anniston has placed two police officers on administrative leave over allegations that the two belong to hate groups.
The Southern Poverty Law Center Wednesday posted on its Hatewatch blog an article alleging that Lt. Josh Doggrell and Lt. Wayne Brown had ties to the League of the South, an organization the SPLC termed as "neo-confederate."
The SPLC identifies the term as meaning groups that advocate "traditional gender roles, ... hostile towards democracy, strongly opposes homosexuality, and exhibits an understanding of race that favors segregation and suggests white supremacy."
In a statement this afternoon, the city announced the two were being placed on leave. Aziza Jackson, a spokeswoman for the city, said she did not know if the two were on paid or unpaid administrative leave.
"After being made aware of the Wednesday, June 17 article by the SPLC, the City of Anniston is taking the allegations made against Lt. Brown and Lt. Doggrell very seriously and have placed both officers on administrative leave," the statement reads.
"Lt. Brown and Lt. Doggrell do not speak for the City of Anniston nor the Anniston Police Department. The City of Anniston has commenced an investigation into this matter and will work diligently to ensure the appropriate action is taken," the statement concludes.
Most of the SPLC story dealt with Doggrell's ties to the LOS, with only a mention of Brown joining Doggrell at a LOS conference.
In the SPLC post and video, Doggrell is quoted as saying that, during a department interview in which he mentioned his ties to the group, he told officials, "I'm not going to sell out my position with the League, as something I believe in strongly. If it came down to it, I'd choose the League."
According to Doggrell, the chief responded, "We pretty much think like you do." It was not clear from the statement when this encounter occurred, or who the police chief would have been.
The post also quotes Anniston City Manager Brian Johnson as saying the city "could not terminate an employee solely on his or her membership in a legal, lawfully formed, civic club or organization."
Anniston city officials referred media members to the city's released statement.

Yes, of course there are physical differences due to genetics and that people have different mental abilities/characteristics due to genetics.
What I'm saying - is that "race" does not divide these characteristics as neatly as you argue. You cannot look at someone, see that they have black skin and deduce that they would excel at certain sports. You can't look at someone with white skin and deduce that they have certain mental capabilities. In many cases you can't look at someone and differentiate their race or ethnic background. Races used to be divided into "caucasoid", "mongoloid", and "negroid" - but, NO ONE fits neatly into any of those three groups.
edit: and since you're bumping threads complaining that I haven't responded to you: how about you finally tell me how many races you think they are and which ones they are?

you'll always be ignorant too, because just as with climate science, you have to be looking for the "right" results to get any grants
here's what you are missing:
you can take a person's DNA and from that you can tell exactly what their racial makeup is, even mixed people, down to a percentage - you can tell what race that person's maternal grandmother was if you want to
race is not a social construct

She could identify as black or white, society could judge her as black or white, etc.
But that is immaterial to her genetic makeup which determines every last little detail about her physically

A person can say their Dachshund is a German Shepherd but that won't change the genetic makeup of their dog.
The racial classifications we generally assign to people may not be the optimal way based on actual genetic distances, but they would be similar.

So, you agree that people have different mental capabilities due to genetics. Confirmed. Check.
Now, how many races are there? Well, most people would identify Black, Brown, Caucasian, Native American, and Asian off the tops of their heads. For the most part, those groups were isolated and developed separately from each other for periods of time. Sure, there was some trade, but when you talk about the average person, they were not taking 747s and mixing and matching between continents for hundreds, or thousands of years. During that time, they developed distinctly different physical characteristics. Even with world travel today mixing bloodlines, you are not going to often mix up a Native American Indian with a Congo native or a Swedish chick with a Polynesian woman.
So please stop kidding yourself, or trying to kid anyone else, with your attempt to blend the different races into something identifiable as one race. We're all humans...but dogs are also dogs. And you wouldn't try to claim that a Dachshund isn't different than a Saint Bernard.

Re: #blacklivesmatter
This is so damn muddled it's not even funny. What the fuck is "brown"? Is this middle eastern? hispanic? indian (dot)? mixed white and black?Cluck U wrote:Black, Brown, Caucasian, Native American, and Asian
Also - take for instance "Native Americans." There are three separate migrations from Asia that are discernible in NA DNA.
You can tell an Inuit from a Amazonian from physical characteristics. And you can also identify the differences looking solely at their DNA.
Are there three separate races of Indians?
And, white people are also muddled. You say "Caucasian" - but, are people from the Caucuses the same race as someone from Ireland? There are physical difference and there are differences in DNA.
Scandanavia has DNA signatures that are discernable from Western Europe. You could look at someone's DNA and say with reasonable accuracy that they have Scandanavian ancestry and not Italian. How many races of "Caucasians" are there?
Australian Aborigines look very similar physically to Africans. But, they have very distinct DNA. They separated from Africa around 75,000 years ago. They're one of the oldest DNA groups on earth and they're very different from Africans.
http://www.australiangeographic.com.au/ ... hs-oldest/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
What "race" are Australian aborigines? Are they "black" because their skin is black? Are the "brown" because that's your catch-all category for shit you aren't sure about?
Look, I've never said you can't divide people up based on physical characteristics or by DNA. But, dividing based on physical characteristics is, in the words of Charles Barkely, turrrible. Dividing based on DNA is better - but, as we understand DNA better and better we can keep dividing humans down to the most minute division of a household. The further you try to separate the more muddy it is - you can't neatly place all humans into 5 groups like you are trying to do. Not scientifically. It simply doesn't work.
