Driving through NC, VA and MD this weekend... I've never seen so many Confederate flags flying.

Spent the 4th in Bloomington, IN and saw a lot of Confederate flags as well.

A month earlier and you could have attended the Ukulele World Congress over by Needmore. Big fun.

I wouldn't call it awful, though. Pizza Hut pizza, especially certain styles (meat lovers for instance) is perfectly fine pizza. Not the best, but better than average and certainly the best or close to the best of the chain pizza places. I was on vacation last week and we were in PEI and the pizza we had there was truly horrific. Some place called Pizza Delight - some chain in Canada. Wow, now that was bad pizza.

Hotel in Charlottetown we stayed at had free breakfast included. Kids enjoyed pouring batter into the belgian waffle irons. I didn't have to pay outright for breakfast until we got to the second stop in Bar Harbor, and then I was paying insane costs. No Horton's (or IHOP) in Bar Harbor - just the cute little restuarants that charge $3 for an OJ.

So I was a few weeks off, but the flag is coming down from the memorial.

Hopefully the knee-jerking stops. Because you now can't have the flag at the grave of Confederate dead in a federal cemetery. You also can't have it at a battle field, or on the top of a car.

The Confederate battle flag that has flown at the South Carolina State House for more than 50 years will soon be gone after lawmakers capped a tension-filled session early on Thursday and voted to remove it from the grounds of the State Capitol.

The final vote in the State House of Representatives, 94 to 20, was well above the two-thirds majority that was required to move the bill toward the desk of Gov. Nikki R. As I looked up at the Confederate soldier who stands watch over students in the upper quad of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I wondered if the university where I chose to spend four years of my life still secretly supported the legacy he represents.
