Re: Who Wins the Big Sky (2015)
Each of the "Big 3" has question marks, and I think UM has the biggest one of them all with a whole new scheme, offense, coach and QB.
EWU needs to replace VA, and MSU changed coaches and tons of personnel on the defense, so we need to prove we can play some semblance of defense.

Only Montana plays ALL the top teams: ISU, NAU, CP, EWU & MSU. Everyone else dodges at least 2 of the top 6. Nice unbalanced scheduling, Foolerton. WAFJ.

Cal Poly plays 3 of the above 4 teams plus Montana (OOC) with UM, MSU and EWU all on the road so I do not have much sympathy for you.AZGrizFan wrote:Only Montana plays ALL the top teams: ISU, NAU,EWU & MSU. Everyone else dodges at least 2 of the top 6. Nice unbalanced scheduling, Foolerton. WAFJ.

I'm gonna give EWU the nod on this one. They seem to be the most "complete" team in the conference

Replace NAU with UM and PSU plays all five. Unbalanced scheduling for sure.AZGrizFan wrote:Only Montana plays ALL the top teams: ISU, NAU, CP, EWU & MSU. Everyone else dodges at least 2 of the top 6. Nice unbalanced scheduling, Foolerton. WAFJ.

They're gonna need to improve that 90th ranked scoring defense in order to be anywhere near "complete".Killamike296 wrote:I'm gonna give EWU the nod on this one. They seem to be the most "complete" team in the conference

Re: Who Wins the Big Sky (2015)
I picked MSU. Virtually all of the changes in personnel and schemes are defensive. Even if the changes are bad it's hard to imagine the D will be worse than last year so I think they'll be at least a little better.
EWU will be good again. They never seem to run out of good QB's.
UM will probably improve but who knows how quickly they'll gel (I'm sure they will by the last regular season game, the bastards ). I think it will take them at least a few games.
ISU is obviously improved and Kramer will do fine with them, but I'm not ready to pick them on top yet. I think they'll be competitive.
Cal Poly should be solid and may end up putting it all together this year.
NAU should be competitive but it's hard to bet on them winning the conference.

Re: Who Wins the Big Sky (2015)
MSU lost some of their best defensive players from last year (like Singleton), so it's difficult to pick their defense to be any good. Ioane may have to be a miracle worker to make them adequate.catbooster wrote:I picked MSU. Virtually all of the changes in personnel and schemes are defensive. True, but West (or whoever gets the nod) isn't Adams. They should be good, but not as good.EWU will be good again. They never seem to run out of good QB's.
It's not just a question of the Griz getting experience in the new system, though. Opposing teams won't really have any experience with Stitt's offense, either. When UM changed styles in 2013, their offense was on fire early in the season.UM will probably improve but who knows how quickly they'll gel (I'm sure they will by the last regular season game, the bastards ). They're good, though they won't be able to sneak up on anyone now.ISU is obviously improved and Kramer will do fine with them, but I'm not ready to pick them on top yet. I think they'll be competitive.
CP has one of the best offenses in the nation, but their defense & special teams are huge question marks.Cal Poly should be solid and may end up putting it all together this year.
Right. Their run defense needs to improve a lot from last year at the very least.NAU should be competitive but it's hard to bet on them winning the conference.
Re: Who Wins the Big Sky (2015)
We don't need West to be Adams. Eastern will have a great offensive line this year (all Seniors) along with playmakers all over the field on offense. That bodes well for West, who is a pretty darn good QB in his own right.Mvemjsunpx wrote:True, but West (or whoever gets the nod) isn't Adams. They should be good, but not as good.
Another way of putting it is that we just need him to be able to throw jump balls, which is what I have seen VA's style of play described as by Montana fans.

It's a good thing you don't think you need West to be Adams, because he proved last year in the games he started in Adams' place that he WASN'T Adams...by any measure.EWURanger wrote:We don't need West to be Adams. He'll be fine. I've heard he's been putting in some serious work this summer on his jump ball game.AZGrizFan wrote:It's a good thing you don't think you need West to be Adams, because he proved last year in the games he started in Adams' place that he WASN'T Adams...by any measure.EWURanger wrote:

Re: Who Wins the Big Sky (2015)
I'm skeptical on that one. EWU's O-Line was definitely the weakest part of their offense last year. The Eags allowed 45 sacks, which is mediocre at best even for a team that throws it a lot. 7.9% of EWU's pass plays were sacks. Compare that with Montana's inexperienced O-Line, who only allowed sacks on 4.0% of pass plays.EWURanger wrote:

Re: Who Wins the Big Sky (2015)
In conference only stats, we gave up 22 but also ran almost 100 more plays than Montana. That might help explain why we rushed for 185 ypg to Montana's 170 last season.Mvemjsunpx wrote:I'm skeptical on that one. EWU's O-Line was definitely the weakest part of their offense last year. 19 of those sacks came during Jordan West's 4 games. Yes, he'll likely be the starter again but Matt Nichol's ability to get rid of the ball quickly between his first four starts and even his sophomore year was dramatic.
4 of the OOC games were against terrific d-lines in SHSU, UW, Montana, and ISUr
It would be interesting to see the blitz percentage against us too.
We'll be fine.

I also like how our QB situation is somehow a liability while no mention of the experience level for the Griz at said position.

Outside of the Roper debacle, I can't really remember the last time the QB position was a liability when we had our first choice guy at the helm.kalm wrote:I also like how our QB situation is somehow a liability while no mention of the experience level for the Griz at said position.

So, this has proven to be a patently false statement. I'm going to blame the board monitors, however. If I had the ability to click on the "FCS Schedules" page and see 2015 schedules, I would have known better...AZGrizFan wrote:Only Montana plays ALL the top teams: ISU, NAU, CP, EWU & MSU. Jesus, I was at the UM/NAU game that Washington started. Wow, was that hard to watch. We ended up winning, but certainly not because of him.Mvemjsunpx wrote:2005, when Jason Washington sucked/was hurt and UM had to start Cole Bergquist as a freshman.Grizalltheway wrote:
