Not that hard - before the end of July trading deadline it's normal trades - teams exchange players, money whatever.

After the trade deadline like for Utley they player has to go on waivers first - if someone claims player the two teams can either workout a deal to transfer him or the existing team pulls player off waivers & he can't be dealt that year. Many players, like Utley, did, clear waivers. Once they clear waivers you still may have to work through no-trade & 10-5 clauses - in Chase's case the Dodgers were his #1 choice & word is said no the Angels last week.

Yeah, there were a few sports reporters around here that actuall saw this potentially coming. Most fans were just waiting for the whole team to be back from injury and they (we) all assumed the returning starters would gel and produce. Mets are also a LOT better than advertised.
